About this product

Mainland master Jia Zhangke (InchA Touch Of SinInch) scales new heights with Mountains May Depart. Starring the luminous Zhao Tao, the film is both an intimate drama and a decades-spanning epic about how China's capitalist experiment has affected the lives of one splintered family, leaping in time from the past to the present to the speculative near-future. Jia's new film is an intensely moving study of how China's economic boom and the culture of materialism it has spawned has affected the bonds of family, tradition, and love.

Beanpole - BLU-RAY

In post-WWII Leningrad, two women, Iya and Masha (astonishing newcomers Viktoria Miroshnichenko and Vasilisa Perelygina), intensely bonded after fighting side by side as anti-aircraft gunners, attempt to readjust to a haunted world. As the film begins, Iya, long and slender and towering over everyone-hence the film's title-works as a nurse in a shell-shocked hospital, presiding over traumatized soldiers. A shocking accident brings them closer and also seals their fates. The 28-year-old Russian director Kantemir Balagov won Un Certain Regard's Best Director prize at this year's Cannes Film Festival for this richly burnished, occasionally harrowing rendering of the persistent scars of war.

The Mountain - DVD

Pierre, a Parisian engineer, goes to the Alps for his work. Irresistibly attracted by the beauty of the mountains, he sets up a campsite amidst the glaciers and feels no desire to return to civilization. As he opens himself to the mystical surroundings, he becomes close with Léa, a beautiful chef, and discovers a luminous life-force emanating from deep within the mountain itself. An Official Selection of the Director's Fortnight - Cannes.

Industrialist Cornelis van Doorn (Kees Brusse) got so filthy rich because he wasted nothing... as demonstrated by how he turned the animal hormone waste from his slaughterhouses into a side business of birth control pills. The time came, though, when he had to choose a successor from amongst his kids, legitimate or otherwise-and the only competent candidate (Rudolf Lucieer) was cursed with ethics. Sexy satire co-stars Andrea Domburg, Hugo Metsers, Sonja Barend. 107 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack Dutch; Subtitles English; audio commentary; bonus short InchFestival of LoveInch (1969); image gallery; theatrical trailers. In Dutch with English subtitles.
