Mt. Joy - Hope We Have Fun - VINYL LP

Limited red colored vinyl LP pressing. The eponymous Murphy's Law debut is perhaps one of the most rocking New York punk releases to appear in the '80s. The manic tempos, masochistic vocals, and other hardcore signatures are toned down here to better suit the group's party message. Apolitical when compared to hard-line contemporaries like Cro-Mags and Agnostic Front, Murphy's Law shoots for an inebriated slice-of-life essence more aligned with Boston's Gang Green. The right-wing and skinhead references didn't exactly sit well with some '80s punk observers who mistakenly labeled the band as fascist. But even a casual study of InchCalifornia PipelineInch and InchIlsaInch reveals an allegiance contrary to the skinhead stereotype. Highlights include the Ace Frehley-inspired guitar work on Skinhead Rebel as well as the rockabilly InchWahoo DayInch groove. A must-have for fans of the group and a strong recommendation for any '80s punk scholar, Murphy's Law is simply a fun ride. Album Tracks 1. Murphy's Law 2. California Pipeline 3. Sit Home & Rot 4. Vinyl LP Pressing. Steeped in folk-rock tradition and powered by the intuitive creative connection between Matt Quinn (vocals, guitar) and Sam Cooper (guitar), the songs on Mt. Joy's eponymous debut depict the former wrestling with his own conscience, where the mundane and the fantastic collide as he processes tragedy, society, and love. Opener InchI'm Your WreckInch describes Inchmonsters in (the) closet, using up the wi-fiInch as it cycles from it's desperate, spiraling verses to it's swinging, stubbornly optimistic coda, while the loping, plaintive chords of InchYounger DaysInch meditate on a frayed psyche and the fear of choosing the wrong path. InchSheep,Inch with it's collapsing, hoarse-voiced cry of Inchfreedom was paid in blood,Inch is a post-Trump salvo on the responsibilities of the fortunate to overcome political and social despondency. InchAstrovanInch is a warm, yearning bit of road-trip philosophy that posits the existence of a Deadhead Jesus cruising the dusty highways of the countryside. And on InchSilver Lining,Inch perhaps the album's brightest moment, Quinn surveys the damage of hard drugs and the vicious cycle of addiction, as the song's melancholic sentiment kicks into it's fervid, defiant chorus, all shout-along vocals and trilling guitars. Album Tracks 1. I'm Your Wreck 2. Dirty Love 3. Silver Lining 4. Bigfoot 5. Sheep 6. Julia 7. MT. Joy 8. Astrovan 9. Cardinal 10. Jenny Jenkins 11. Sado 12. St. George 13. Younger Days

Vinyl LP pressing. Born and raised in Hackney, Mychelle first picked up a guitar aged 10, but put it back down again shortly after, before returning to the instrument at 17, when she quickly began making a name for herself busking around the capital. In 2019 she was spotted by Idris Elba who invited her to his studio to write and sing on his Yardie Mixtape project, the soundtrack to his directorial film debut of the same name. 2021 saw Mychelle her stunning debut EP, Closure. It was named BBC Radio 1Xtra host Jamz Supernova's No. 5 EP of the year, which celebrates the world of future R&B, and she went on to perform an intimate rendition of 'Life Isn't' on Tonight With Target.
