About this product
Dan Dediu (b. 1967) is a Romanian composer whose genius and imagination remain to be fully acknowledged outside his homeland. As violinist Muresanu says, InchDan Dediu is a musical wizard who conjures styles and ideas from different eras, molding them into a cohesive musical discourse that is unmistakably his own.Inch The composer uses a process he calls 'hybridisation', taking existing music and combining pieces and transforming the result into a totally new and individual work. The most explicit example here is the 'SonatOpera' Don Giovanni/Juan, combining elements from Mozart and Strauss. But this is only one of the techniques used by Dediu to create his special and magical soundworld which is of today yet will appeal to a wide audience. The SonatOpera and A Mythological Bestiary were both written for and premiered by the current performers. Violinist Irina Muresanu is a brilliant virtuoso with a singing and lyrical tone; for the last few years she has taught at the University of Maryland and is currently relocating to Paris. She has been described as 'irresistible' (Boston Globe) and she is a dedicated champion of contemporary music with a substantial discography and founded the solo violin project 'Four Strings Around the World'. Pianist Valentina Sandu-Dediu is also an accomplished musician but even better known internationally as a well-published musicologist and musical historian.

![Miquel Bernat - Torres: Duos with Piano - COMPACT DISCS [CD]](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/c6f8743b-d150-44b3-bd25-b8e2169ca172.jpg;maxHeight=422;maxWidth=264?format=webp)
This CD presents itself before us like a photograph, still in development, of a part of the vital outline of Jesu´s Torres (1965). It shows us his essential characteristics, his concerns, and the solutions he has adopted throughout the more than twenty years covered by this volume (1997-2018). The main body of the work was written between 1997 and 2004, the time of the composition of the Variations for cello and piano, but his resources already outline and anticipate a future whose culmination -at least for the moment- we can see in his vocal music and his opera, Tra´nsito 2020. And not only that, he also takes us into his personal relationships with musicians with whom he shares trajectory and who have been patrons of his music. Torres composes with specific musicians in mind, amplifying their technical and expressive qualities. The technical difficulties of this repertoire are extremely taxing. Fortunately, for this CD, Alberto Rosado, promoter of the project, has brought together a group of exceptional performers, who offer absolutely brilliant interpretations. Jose´ Luis Estelle´s (Fantasi´a for clarinet and piano), Miquel Bernat (Splendens), Mari´a Zubimendi (Accentus), David Apella´niz (Variations for cello and piano), Clara Andrada (Sonata for flute and piano) and Robert Silla (Silentum amoris) all make their corresponding interventions in exquisite and referential versions. Because after all the technical difficulties of this music, the desired reward comes to the fore. Torres offers unsurpassable moments of expressive beauty that take the performer and, therefore, the listener, to the expected Ithaca towards pure enjoyment.
