About this product
Black is the color of the bile said to induce a state of gloom. In the form of Inchmelancholia,Inch it has become an allegory of the artistic imagination. The hour of melancholy strikes at night, when the sleep of reason brings forth it's monsters. This CD takes us on a foray into the land of shadows it's compositions make remarkable use of light and shadow effects while simultaneously recalibrating the relationship between ensemble and soloist in unique ways. Michael Jarrell's arrangement of a violin concerto for chamber orchestra refracts the solo instrument's line through the prism of the ensemble. The tale told by Stefano Gervasoni's InchloweredInch concerto for double bass is only superficially about dolce far niente; his music is a nocturnal creature that gathers odd sound forms - until the alarm goes off. Taking an (early-morning) look in the mirror, the solo flute in Durand's InchOmbre/MiroirInch finds itself still faced with shadowy creatures as well. And finally, in Brian Ferneyhough's seven tableaux vivants, the angel of history appears in verses of poet Charles Bernstein he shows his gloomy face.

This historic broadcast recording was always counted as one of the best recordings of this opera. With the best singers of the Frankfurt opera after WW II like Heinrich Bensing, there was always a demand for a of this recording. Thanks to a collector who made a direct master copy of the original broadcast tape in the early 50's, Walhall is able to it in great sound.

Three classics from Grimm's fairy tales musically retold by Berlin composer Mark Scheibe. Narrator Meike Droste and the recorder players of the Boreas Quartet Bremen bring the fairy tale characters to life in vivid language and new verses. The ensemble's entire range of instruments is used from the tirilating sopranino to the donkey-like contrabass recorder.

Anton Beer-Walbrunn (1864-1929) was a teacher of counterpoint, harmony, composition and piano at the Royal Academy of Music in Munich, where he was one of the leading figures in the music scene, but his work is almost forgotten. To change this is the aim of a series at BAYER RECORDS, the third part of which presents the piano cycle Reisebilder Op.21 as well as selected songs. The German soprano, Angelika Huber, sang for several years with the children's choir of the Bavarian State and continued her musical education at the Bayerische Singakademie (a scholarship system of the Bavarian State). After graduating from high school, she studied singing at the Munich Academy for Music and Theater. Born in Venthône (Switzerland), Lauriane Follonier studied piano in Neuchâtel with Marc Pantillon and in Munich, where she graduated in 2011 with the piano master class with Prof. Gitti Pirner. Currently she is studying to receive her Master of Early Music with emphasis on fortepiano with Prof. Christine Schornsheim.
