Q: Can I connect it to a modem?
A: I bought this switch because I wanted more hard wired connections, 1 for my smart TV, 1 for my Hue hub and a couple other things. To connect all you do is run a cat5 from your modem output to any ports on this switch. Plug in the power and then the other ports on the switch are available to connect to your other devices.
A: Yes it does no problems.
A: yes - you will have 1 port connected from the wall/router - all the rest go to your devices
A: Made in Thailand (printed on the underside)
Q: does this Router supply 2 or more IP addresses to a PC?
A: It's a switch not a router. It just passes network traffic thru it. It doesn't supply any IP addresses. But it will allow all traffic thru, so if your PC has 2 IP addresses associated with it, then both of those addresses will be reachable and able to send out thru this switch.
A: This is a SWITCH not a router. You need a router to communicate with your Internet Service Provider (ISP) like Comcast, Fios, Cox, etc. You can buy a Cable Modem from BestBuy or another source instead of renting one through your ISP. If you need more than the supplied connections on the router (usually 4 Ethernet jacks) you can add this switch to add more ports/jacks/connections. Keep in mind, if your on cable and you buy a cable modem, and have more than one device hooking up (usually) you need to purchase a cable modem WITH WIFI or a cable modem and a Wifi Router (same thing like a switch, however it manages devices, adds wifi and is needed prior to a switch) Hope this helps....
A: I have an Arris Surfboard Modem Model SB8200 and a Linksys - Velop AC2200 Tri-Band Router. I bought this Netgear GS205 5-PORT GIGABIT SWITCH and placed it between the Modem and the Router.
A: Yes you need an ethernet cable. It is not included in packaging. We used it to convert our old telephone wiring into web plugs. It works great.
