A: This device will constantly scan and update for strongest WIFI signal in your location. The signals are free. Most signals are secured and In order to connect with any of the signals you must provide a User ID and Password. IF you're extremely lucky someone ( a neighbor) may be sending an unsecured signal. But this is highly unusual. NOTE: Unlike a cell phone which has a built in mobile device that allows a temporary connection to many retail or commercial stores who provide free access when you visit their stores. New computers, laptops, and tablets today have wireless WIFI built into it ... This "Nighthawk Ac1900 Wifi Usb Adapter" enables older computer units to eliminate cables and allows them wireless access to the internet.
