Here is Challenge Classics fourth orchestral of Robin de Raaf's music. Robin de Raaf is counted amongst the contemporary leading composers in the Netherlands. His music is complex and much elaborated, but also approachable to the ear. On previous CC 72762 (Melodies unheard) The result is ultimately a very personal kind of expressionism that is never less than impressive and sometimes beautiful, sometimes overwhelmingly violent. Karina Canellakis offers the first fruit of her exclusive Pentatone collaboration with a recording of Bartók's 4 Orchestral Pieces and Concerto for Orchestra, together with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, of which she is the Chief Conductor. The 4 Orchestral Pieces have a strong affinity with the stage works Duke Bluebeard's Castle and The Wooden Prince, conceived in the same period. The Concerto for Orchestra is one of Bartóks final works, full of folk tunes, and utterly colourful and virtuosic for all the instruments. As such, it's an ideal piece to showcase the congeniality between the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and it's star Chief Conductor. Internationally acclaimed for her emotionally charged performances, technical command and interpretive depth, Karina Canellakis has become one of the most in- demand conductors of her generation. She makes her Pentatone debut as Chief Conductor of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra that returns to the tag after it's participation in Gordon Getty's Beauty Comes Dancing (2018).

After our Bruckner/Haitink (CC 72895), we are very proud to present the result of a new collaboration with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and it's prestigious Saturday Matinée series. This disc contains two major orchestral works by Reinbert de Leeuw, composed respectively in 1974 and in 2013. While Abschied is a stormy and compact piece, Der nächtliche Wanderer is an enormous work suffused with resonant memories. Both are world premiere releases and this CD is a significant addition to the contemporary music record repertoire.

Released in 1990, Hindu Love Gods is a collaboration between Warren Zevon and R.E.M. members, featuring blues and rock covers. Their version of Prince's InchRaspberry BeretInch reached the Billboard Hot 100. The album earned a cult following for it's unpolished, spontaneous feel, blending Zevon's style with R.E.M.'s sound. The album hasn't been reissued on vinyl since 1990 and is pressed on 180g black vinyl.
