Neutral Milk Hotel - On Avery Island - VINYL LP

Recorded at 19 years old on a cheap laptop, you'll hear what Brian Eno fondly calls Inchthe sound of failureInch - thrilling, extraordinary, and singularly compelling failure. Will Toledo's first love, rendered in the vivid teenage viscera of stolen gin, bruised shins, and weird S*x, was an event documented like a snapshot in time. Twin Fantasy is deeply, truly adored. The album has been downloaded over 33k times on Bandcamp, where the comments left by fans feel like testimonials. Legions of reverent listeners carve rituals out of it sobbing over InchFamous Prophets,Inch making out to InchCute Thing,Inch dancing their asses off as InchBodysInch climbs higher, higher. The distortion hardly matters. You can hear him just fine. You can hear everything. And you can feel everything his hope, his despair, his wild overjoy.

Limited edition box set contains the albums In the Aeroplane Over the Sea LP and On Avery Island 2-LP, a 12Inch picture disc pressing of Live at Jittery Joe's, two 10Inch vinyl EPs, three 7Inch vinyl singles, and two folded posters plus other inserts. The two full-length records that Jeff Mangum made as Neutral Milk Hotel sound both in and out of time. Like translations of a shared subconscious, 1996's On Avery Island and 1998's In the Aeroplane Over the Sea give voice to the perennial spirit of youthful epiphany, of beginning to see the world clearly, to process and express it- no matter when you encounter them. With lo-fi indie rock, accordion, singing saw, tape collages, the so-called InchzanzithophoneInch and beyond, Neutral Milk Hotel created an eternal entry into their Elephant 6 scene and an enduring feeling of possibility. Neutral's 2014 1st LP, Grå Våg Gamlestaden, is widely considered ground zero for the explosion of creativity that has transpired in the Swedish Underground ever since. It is the noisy experimental rock album that opened the door and welcomed in so many artists working behind the scenes. Gothenburgers Dan Johansson (Sewer Election) and Sofie Herner had previously made music together in the band Källarbarnen when they started discussing a new methodology and a fresh sound for recordings under a new name as a duo. Grapefruit was proud to reissue that first LP in 2021 and they are equally excited to follow up that sold-out with two more important Neutral releases, the self-titled sophomore LP from 2016 in a gatefold sleeve and the När mini album EP from 2017 which was originally limited to 300 copies.Grapefruit's reissue of the När mini album and the 2nd LP is the first time these have been reissued. Both are limited to 400 copies.
