Kolner Akademie Willens - Easter Cantatas - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

On this new production the Kölner Akademie has recorded two oratorios composed by members of the generation after Bach and explicitly focusing on the theme of the Resurrection. Johann Friedrich Agricola composed Die Auferstehung des Erlösers for performance in St. Peter's Church in Berlin on the First Day of Easter in 1758, and Gottfried August Homilius wrote the Oratorium auf Ostern in 1767, when it was probably performed in the Church of Our Lady in Dresden. Agricola's Easter cantata Der Gottmensch jauchzt is included with the two oratorios. Regarded during his lifetime as Inchcertainly now absolutely the best church composer,Inch Homilius wrote an extensive cantata consisting of ten individual movements in the form of his oratorio for Easter. His music already displays elements of Early Classicism and the empfindsamer Stil, his cantata choruses are frequently of homophonic design and song character, and the polyphonic sections are rather rare. While the oratorio by Homilius continues to contain the historical component of the Easter event, Die Auferstehung des Erlösers by Agricola, with it's subtitle Ein musikalisches Gedicht, is much more freely designed. The three accompagnato recitatives are of special musico-dramatic significance; in them the author of the text embellishes the earthquake accompanying the resurrection of Jesus and the mysterious event on the whole with rich verbal and pictorial formulations. The works presented here attest to the mastery of their composers. Arias of marvelous musical beauty, the naturalness of their expression, and the dramatic suspense in the individual movements continue to make for compelling listening even today.

Radio Moscow - New Beginnings - VINYL LP

Description San Diego based psychedelic blues trio Radio Moscow's fifth studio album, InchNew BeginningsInch, reissued on vinyl on April 19th via Svart Records Formed in 2003, the power trio led by Stratocaster genius Parker Griggs carved their own sonic niche fusing crunching, heavy Black Sabbath -style chords with fiery InchHendrixianInch solos and a raw intensity that is addictive and captivating. From the self-titled debut back in 2007, which was produced by Black Keys' Dan Auerbach, over to InchLive! In CaliforniaInch from 2016, RADIO MOSCOW proved to be not just a cheap time machine but a direct descendant from the golden age of rock 'n' roll. InchNew BeginningsInch, originally released by Century Media in 2017, is a bong-sparking blowout, packed to the brim with blazing tempos, cartwheeling jams and the wild-eyed shredding of frontman Parker Griggs. Expertly channelling the kaleidoscopic intersection of electric blues and cosmic psychedelia in the late 60s, tracks like Last To Know and Deceiver richly evoke the sense of freewheeling indulgence and improvisational showmanship of that era. Jams build upon jams without any regard for brevity and restraint, in sharp contrast to modern conventions. RADIO MOSCOW is Parker Griggs (vocals, guitar) Anthony Meier (bass) Paul Marrone (drums) InchThe band actively evokes all that was great about hard-rock trios of the '60s, the Blue Cheers, the Creams, etc., but does it with such gleeful abandon you've got to admire both their spirit and whatever time capsule they rode in on. Great fun.Inch - Dave Dimartino / ROLLING STONE InchNew BeginningsInch is available on Svart exclusive Turquoise/Purple/White marble vinyl, limited transparent violet vinyl, and classic black vinyl.
