Niccolo Jommelli - Fede Speranza E Amor Divino - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

On 5 September 1723, Emperor Charles VI, the father of his legendary successor Maria Theresia, was crowned King of Bohemia in St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague. After this magnificent ceremony had already gone on for several hours, the Golden City held a series of festivities that one can hardly imagine today. Among other things, a new work by the Vienna court composer Francesco Conti was performed. The serenata Il Trionfo della Fama, in which the goddess of fame (and rumour) celebrates the ruler of the world together with all parts of the earth known at the time. His Majesty was surely greatly pleased by the one-act opera. With timpani and trumpets, sprinkled with glorious arias for the allegorical figures representing the emperor's character traits, the InchTriumph of the Goddess of FameInch has not lost anything of it's entertaining impact even three hundred years after it's premiere.

Jommelli / Akademie / Marchi - Niccolo Jommelli La Passione di Nostro Signore Gesu [COMPACT DISCS] date 03/24/2017

Giovanni Legrenzi was one of the most gifted and influential composers of his generation, playing a decisive role in the establishment of Baroque style in northern Italy in the latter half of the 17th century. Drawing on the example of Monteverdi, Harmonia d'affetti devoti for two, three, and four voices with organ bass, was intended for liturgical use, but the sung texts depart entirely from tradition, being chosen to maximize the expressive power of their musical settings. This world premiere recording reveals Legrenzi's extraordinary melodic refinement, rhythmic vitality and perfect elegance, all designed to rouse listeners to feelings of stupore et maraviglia ('wonder and amazement').
