About this product
Nick the Knife is a 1982 album by Nick Lowe. The album was Lowe's third solo LP, and his first since the 1981 breakup of his band Rockpile. However, the record still has several Rockpile ties, as Lowe's former bandmates Billy Bremner and Terry Williams play on the album. In addition, Lowe does a slowed-down remake of the Rockpile song InchHeartInch; the original version can be found on the band's album Seconds of Pleasure sung by Bremner.

While Cowboy Outfit has a slightly different meaning as UK Slang, Nick Lowe and His Cowboy Outfit marks a turn towards a more rootsy persona for our hero. Anchored by the international number one Half a Boy and Half a Man, the album introduces a tex-mex/roller-rink organ sound, although the lineup of Bobby Irwin, Paul Carrack, Martin Belmont and Lowe is essentially unchanged. Newly discovered Johnny Horton covers Honky Tonk Hardwood Floor and Walk on By (included here as bonus tracks) show that there may have been a more twangy intention to the record- but as it is full on rockers like Maureen and Mickey Jupps You'll Never Get Me Up (in One of Those) rub shoulders with pop like Dusty Springfields Breakaway and Nicks own L.A.F.S. (featuring the TKO Horns who had recently punched up arranger Elvis Costellos own Everyday I Write the Book).

Vinyl LP pressing. Nick Lowe's 2001 album The Convincer established him as an elder statesman of rock and roll, far removed from the ironic power popper he was in the 1970s. The album arrived in a different world than the day before, releasing on September 11, 2001. These were songs for troubled times (InchI'm a Mess, Inch InchLately I've Let Things SlideInch) and Nick's songwriting was never sharper, with Mojo Magazine saying InchNick Lowe has made the album of his career.Inch The album has been newly remastered from the original tapes.

Backed on every track by Nick's trusted collaborators Los Straitjackets, Nick exhibits his razorsharp songwriting ability through a multitude of sonic environments. With his signature wit on display for grooving numbers like InchWent to a PartyInch and InchDon't Be Nice to Me,Inch to the heartfelt sentiment on InchBlue on BlueInch and InchJet Pac Boomerang,Inch and topped with Nick breathing new life into hidden gems of the '60s like InchRaincoat in the RiverInch and InchA Quiet Place,Inch Indoor Safari demonstrates how Nick Lowe continues to make his mark as a performer, songwriter and producer over a half-century after his start in the music industry.
