Nicky Egan - This Life - VINYL LP

In between steadily touring as a hired gun for psych-soul LA staple, Chicano Batman, Nicky Egan has been stealthily plugging away with her New York based producer and Dap-Kings guitarist Joe Crispiano to complete her forthcoming LP InchThis LifeInch. Driven by honest confessional songwriting and influenced by your favorite classic soul sounds, the record features a who's who of NY's most sought after players including Homer Steinweiss, Victor Axelrod, Brian Wolfe & Elizabeth Pupo-Walker, to name a few and will be released via Transistor Sound Records, headed up in part by Colemine Record's soulster, Kelly Finnigan. Flood Magazine premiered Egan's debut 7Inch single, 'Back To You', a fresh take on that classic 70's soul cruiser sound, with B side InchRun RunInch in March. With a few more singles to follow, including the heavy hitting, fuzz guitar driven opening track, 'Changes', the full LP is slated for late summer/early fall. 'This Life' is an album that tells the tale of just that, life's journey. The moments of transience, growth, acceptance, and reflection that we experience throughout our short time here. The 10 song LP will take you on a cinematic ride, headed up by epic fuzz guitar melodies, surrounded by bells, organs & pianos, and guided tightly by Egan's sultry and dynamic vocals.

The song oeuvre of Darius Milhaud is almost unmanageable. Holger Falk and Steffen Schleiermacher approach this huge convolute with a first selection that already shows the entire breadth of Milhaud's compositions - from humorous cabaret pieces to serious songs, from extended cycles to occasional works Inchthrown downInch with a nimble hand. Throughout his long life, Milhaud remained faithful to tonality. He followed atonality and twelve-tone music of his contemporaries with interest, without ever applying it even on a trial basis. Nevertheless, the simultaneous sounding of different tonalities became almost a trademark of Milhaud - along with his preference for exciting borrowings from distant peoples and exotic rhythms. The InchVocalise-ÉtudeInch in 5/8 time sounds more like a South American dance than a vocal exercise; InchDans les Rues de RioInch contains a variety of acoustic memories of a stay in Brazil's capital; the InchSoirées de PétrogradInch, based on recordings by Russian emigrants, seems almost cartoonish-cabaret-like. And the text is always in the foreground. Milhaud leads the words with his music to a new sphere - to be observed especially well in the InchPoèmes juifsInch. Holger Falk, with his highly flexible voice, knows excellently how to shape this expansion of meaning, and he is supported by Steffen Schleiermacher, who is as sensitive to sound as he is expressive on the contemporary Steinway.
