About this product

Under the moniker of Night Beats, Texas native Danny Lee Blackwell has spent the last fifteen years exploring a nexus of vintage rhythm & blues, after-midnight soul, and sun-scorched psychedelia. On Night Beats' latest offering, Blackwell presents two markedly different renditions of his song InchBehind the Green Door.Inch On side A, we're treated to a down-tempo, minor key track drenched in the haze of vice, as if some aspiring Motor City outfit had traveled down to Austin and snuck into the studio to cut a song while The 13th Floor Elevators were on a smoke break. Or perhaps it's more akin to a meeting between Ray Charles, Skip Pence, and Link Wray. Or maybe it's Joe Tex grappling with Gram Parsons. Or Duane Eddy pairing up with Cedric Bixler-Zavala. Or maybe it's just years of Blackwell distilling and translating the sounds around him into his own concoction. Ultimately, InchBehind the Green DoorInch is an invitation to enter the kingdom and dwell in the garden while the shadow of doubt looms nearby, a subconscious journey into the delights and pitfalls of unknown territories made manifest in the music of Night Beats. Side B features the Rah John version of InchBehind the Green Door.Inch According to the Night Beats camp, Rah John was discovered by Blackwell on his recent expedition to the island Koh Khram Yai, located off the coast of Pattaya in the Gulf of Thailand. Not much is known about the young artist besides his love for 70's Thai disco and dancehall tapes received from local sailors. Hearing a streak of revelry buried in the Night Beats' tune, Rah John summoned a sunnier, breezier, and more exotic side to the Rhythm and Blues sway of the original.

The Staves - All Now - VINYL LP

All Now emerges from a period of chaos for the band that was followed by a period of enforced quiet. The Staves released their third album, Good Woman, in February 2021; it was an album of love and loss, written during a disconcerting period of turmoil and pain. InchThere was a delayed reaction to trauma and these big changes out of your control,Inch says Jess of the period that came after Good Woman, as the band-like the rest of us-were forced to sit with their thoughts. The Staveley-Taylors were also still processing the death of their mother and other seismic changes Emily took a backseat on this album (while still contributing vocals on a handful of tracks) to focus on motherhood, while Camilla reckoned with her own mental and physical health issues, including chronic pain and a series of operations due to endometriosis, which began to take an increasing toll. Struggling after two years of deep solitude and pain following the of Good Woman, The Staves did what they know how to do best they got back to writing with the idea of going back to basics and focusing almost solely on each other and their guitars as a starting point. It began with Jess, navigating this new landscape by harnessing her creativity on her own, at first in the studio in Hackney at the end of 2022, then slowly luring Camilla back to the next chapter of The Staves, before reaching out to Congleton, who the band had worked with on Good Woman.

Chastity Belt - Loaded Painted Red - Purple - 7-INCH SINGLE [7 inch Vinyl Disc]

Chastity Belt's version of InchLoaded Painted RedInch doesn't just cover 764-Hero's original. It dissolves into it, rebuilding it with a gauzy, wide-open clarity. It's a song that's always carried a certain weight bruised and echoing with late '90s Pacific Northwest melancholy. In their first-ever recorded cover, Chastity Belt traces that ache into new territory, drawing it out like bated breath. Lydia Lund threads a new guitar line through the song, tugging it towards their distinct style like a slow orbit around the song's core feeling. InchI've been a fan of 764-Hero for a while now, and 'Loaded Painted Red' is one of my faves!Inch says Julia Shapiro. InchIt was hard to do the song justice because the original is so perfect, but we also had fun reimagining it and making it our own.InchInitially released in 1998 on 764-Hero's Get Here and Stay (Up Records), InchLoaded Painted RedInch has long been a fan-favorite, a softly jagged and charged meditation. The new split 7Inch pairs the cover with the original, a full-circle that marks 764-Hero's catalog joining the Suicide Squeeze family. Together, the two versions collapse decades into a single foggy breath riding out the dusky golden-hour light of the Pacific Northwest.

Night Beats - Myth Of a Man - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Fronted by Texan native Danny Lee Backwell, Myth Of A Man is an album that holds it's own next to the classics, less of the bloodshot acid trip of Sonic Bloom (2013) and Who Sold My Generation (2016) here, Blackwell has recalibrated them, slowed them down just enough and allowed them the space to breathe and exist as something new. It's the same book, just a different chapter. Written during a particularly destructive period of Night Beats, the album is populated by fallen angels, blood-sucking wanderers, and vindictive lovers - sketches of people the band has surely come across during their cosmic roving through the underground - but the character most present is Blackwell, himself. InchMyth Of A Man can be summed up as a personal display of vulnerability and guilty conscience,Inch he explains, InchDestroying the mythos of what it means to live and function in society.Inch With it's bold steps forward, Myth Of A Man serves as both a takedown and reintroduction of the band as we know it - the strongest evidence that you'll never be able to pin Night Beats down.
