Nikki Giovanni - The Way I Feel - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Limited edition of 2000 individually numbered copies on orange coloured 180-gram audiophile vinyl. Thelonious Monk once famously said Inchthe piano ain't got no wrong notesInch, and this mantra is evident in his playing full of angular, challenging harmonies combined with a harsh and percussive technique. Though his style of playing was unorthodox, he could also play runs and arpeggios with great speed and accuracy. All in all Monk would prove to be a long-lasting influence on jazz piano. Underground is the seventh studio album that Monk did for Columbia and features Larry Gales on bass, Ben Riley on drums and Charlie Rouse on tenor saxophone. A prolific composer, all but one of the tunes on this record are original compositions, all with different stories. Apart from the music, the cover is worth a special mention. It depicts Monk as a member of the French Resistance and is meant as an homage to Pannonica InchNicaInch de Koenigswarter. She was a member of the aristocratic Rothschild family and became a patron of leading jazz musicians, hosting jam sessions, driving them to gigs and sometimes even help out with paying the rent. In 1969 the cover won a Grammy for Best Recording Package.

CD reissue of this powerful blend of funk, soul, & poetry. InchListen, the great Nikki Giovanni was protected. Inside the church, you can hear it. In the dusty silence, you can hear it. In the electric texture of the crowd, the buzz of the instruments, you can hear it. What you hear and feel is safe in the belly of the blues. Her voice loved like hands on the ivory keys of the church organ deep inside the spell of gospel. Nikki Giovanni is a poet at the pulpit righteous with spirit and energy. A poet in the choir hypnotized with the sound of the past, present and future. Nikki Giovanni inspires a new language rising out of the desolate and uncertain seventies.Inch - Camae Ayewa (Moor Mother, Irreversible Entanglements)

I wonder what it takes to be a poem whispering inspiration inside the ears of the world? Nikki Giovanni is bold, honest and unrelenting in her poetic performance. Giovanni is a master poet who has not taken the easy road toward the formation of truth on paper. She is a poet whose knowledge and sensitivities run deep and are tied to this world. Her words tied alongside the hands of the people, who are shifting times. The truth exists in the world and it is the job of the poet to pull the truth out of violentical air and place it with care upon the page to be casted from the mouth to the hearts of the people. - Camae Ayewa aka Moor Mother (Irreversible Entanglements)1.
