This AF-P 18-55mm lens uses a newer Electromagnetic Pulse motor, indicated in the name by AF-P, which is not compatible with our older cameras. The D5000 will be compatible with any lens uses our Silent Wave Motors indicated by the lens being named AF-S with G and D type apertures.
