A very nice upgrade from the 55-200mm kit lens. The AF is quiet and fast and the VR works very well. The attached images won't win any contests but will give you an idea of the reach. This was shot hand held at 300mm with a D3300. The AF and VR both did their jobs well. I was surprised by the amount of detail in the 200% crop.

Works great on nikon d500 and with nikon j5 through ft1 adapter it turns into a 900mm equivalent with AF!

I was able to pick up this lens as an open-box from Best Buy and saved a bunch of money. Even though it's one of Nikon's plastic mount lenses and my first time using one, I wouldn't hesitate buying it and recommending it. This lens gets very good reviews online, myself included. It's super light and super sharp...as good as any Nikon lens in this zoom range. Because it's so light, it's so easy to carry and perfect to take along when heavier lenses won't do. This is especially true with the smaller Nikon DSLRs like the 3xxx-5xxx series bodies. Focus is quick and silent!

A great addition to my lens group. Works well on my Nikon D5200 and D3300 bodies. Use of manual on different cameras not possible. Check compatibility. Not too heavy, good in hand or on tripod. Good images at 70-135-300 with good resolution. Need to explore different settings. Buy the model with VR.

It is a very friendly, easy to use, light to carry lens. It appears to give good focus and reasonable sharpness over the whole range. It is however, a bit of a loner in my collection. I have zooms to cover the range from 10-20, 18-55, 55-200, and 200-500. Where does a 70-300 fit into that sequence? The answer is it's probably unnecessary for me. I am considering selling it after just a few months. My main interest is bird photography. Many birds here in California are small or they prefer to sit in the tree-tops. My other photography interests are landscape, people and macro. I have all those covered by my smaller zooms and some good prime lenses and a macro. I suppose it would be just right for Saturday morning kid's sports or if you want to photo cattle or other large animals from a safe distance. I have one Nikon camera bag for wildlife and another for people, architectural, and landscape. I can't make my mind which bag to keep it in. But that has nothing to do with the lens' properties and everything to do with my particular interests. So I would recommend it to those who have a need for its' range and whose lens list accommodates it.

This is what you'd expect from a relatively inexpensive APS-C zoom lens. I'd like it to be faster and sharper but hey, for what I shoot, it's more than okay. Also more than okay is the AF-S function that lets me manually focus in auto mode. So why buy it? This was to replace the kit lens that came with my D5600. Said lens was the non-VR variant. After a short while, confirmed that you really can't hand hold a 300mm telephoto lens without anti-shake/VR. Ergo, I bought this baby. FWIW, Best Buy bought back the non VR lens for about 40 bucks in gift card. Which is 40 bucks more than what I paid for it.

I bought the lens to use at work taking photos of equipment in the field. It’s the perfect lens for long distance machinery shots.

This lense does focus faster than previous models. I used it on my d500 with 3d,continous 10 FPS going 70 mph on static subjects aproaching our vehicle. At least 80 % of shots were in focus for this test ! This will be a clessic birding lense. Next I'll get the new, not yet released 70-300 for full frame,( both P and E ) for my d810 !

The Lens is Great. Has fast, smooth, and quiet auto focus. Does really great for daytime photos, especially videos. As for nighttime shoots, not so great. But all in all great lens for getting close up shots of things far away.
