Lens Buying Guide

  • Compatible with a variety of Nikon DSLR cameras: Works with any Nikon DX or FX-format DSLR camera with an F-bayonet mount.
  • f/1.8–16 aperture: The f/1.8 maximum aperture performs exceptionally in low-light settings and also allows remarkable depth-of-field control, so you can softly blur your backgrounds and draw attention to your subjects.

Q: Is this a dx or fx format?

A: The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.8G is a FX-format lens that helps you to create beautiful bokeh images with both DX and FX-format camera bodies. This compact lens is super fast and designed to capture wide-angle, perspective images that are simply amazing.

Q: Hello. I currently have a D3100, which I will continue to use, but I also will be upgrading to a Nikon 750 sometime later this year. Will this lens work on both cameras? Thanks, Pete

A: Your D3100 does not have an autofocus motor. It will require lenses that have that motor built-in. Nikon denotes these type of lenses with an AF-S (or more recently, and AF-P). Since this lens is an AF-S type lens, it does have Nikon's Silent Wave Autofocus Motor incorporated in it. It will work, with autofocus, on the D3100. Just a note, AF-P type lenses, while they contain Nikon's new Pulse AF motor, they will NOT work on the D3100.

Q: Will this lens work with a d3400?

A: The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.8G Wide-Angle lens is fully compatible with the Nikon D3400 DX-format DSLR camera. When using this FX lens with a DX-format camera, like the Nikon D3400, there will be a 1.5 crop factor. To learn more about DX crop factor please contact Nikon Support.

Q: I am a beginner photographer and interested in doing more with astrophotography than my kit lens will allow. Is this lens a good choice? I have a D3300.

A: The AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.8G lens is an excellent choice for astrophotography. This versatile and amazing wide-angle lens has a low aperture of 1.8 which helps you to easily capture star landscapes. FX-format cameras will allow you to have a 75° angle of view while a DX-format camera, like the Nikon D3300, will provide a 53° angle of view. To learn more about astrophotography please contact Nikon Support.

Q: Will this work with th d3300.

A: Yes, the AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.8G is completely compatible with the Nikon D3300 DSLR camera.

Q: Will this work with my d80?

A: Yes, the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.8G Wide-Angle lens is fully compatible with the Nikon D80 DSLR camera. This compact, prime lens is fast, with remarkable depth-of-field control that provides for beautiful and vibrant images in all types of situations.
