Opalescence is the new album from the most unusual trio of Norbert Rodenkirchen, Robbie Lee, and James Ilgenfritz. The setting for the initial sessions hushed microtones bouncing off reverberant marble walls while a blizzard raged outside. Their backgrounds an unconventional mix of medieval music, modern composition, various folk traditions, and, of course, jazz. And the result an unclassifiable amalgam of improvised forms, weaving together far-flung genres, gratifyingly challenging yet easy to enjoy. The album is framed with a series of solo composition by Rodenkirchen, with echoes of his solo work on Hameln Anno 1284 and Tibia Ex Tempore. Ilgenfritz begins the track Mille Regretz with an extended solo bass exploration of arco harmonics, before medieval fragments enter the drone like a dream. Tones of modern and early composers begin to merge (Scelsi, Grisey, Josquin, Machaut). But the sounds also have levity and wit. The pastoral folk of Society of the First Snowfall gives way to an exploratory energy that wouldn't be out of place on an Art Ensemble of Chicago Record. When Lee's renaissance clarinet joins his sopranino saxophone at the end, the spirit of Roland Kirk's double-horn dances with it's most ancient precedent, perhaps channeling the ancient Greek double-wind aulos. The instruments used during these sessions deserve mention in their own right flutes both pre-modern and postmodern, from medieval to quarter tone. The gentle giant that is the contrabass recorder, looking more like a Bauhaus tower than a renaissance sound-anchor. An assortment of other quirky winds, from the wooden piccolo to the glissando sliding headjoint flute. Opalescence is a creative sound experience not quite like any other. Originally released in 2009, Eliot Lipp's album InchPeace Love Weed 3DInch covers a lot of ground in ten songs. The record's style explores instrumental electro-funk, acid, fusion and even italo-disco sounds. The album began as a collection of loose sketches made on various drum machines and synthesizers recorded to tape. This source tape was then cut apart, resampled, and enhanced with the addition of more samples and live instrumentation. Lipp chose to work for the first time with a studio guitarist. He met Guitar Ron in the subway station close to his studio in NYC. Throughout this album his efforts blend perfectly with Lipp's exquisite taste in sound as the synth and guitar leads weave effortlessly in between thick chords and complex drums. Peace Love Weed 3D was originally released on Eliot's own tag Old Tacoma Records January 27th, 2009 and now receives it's long overdue, first ever vinyl pressing through frequent collaborators YHS Records.

Revisiting the songs in this studio sessions with Jack Shirley at Atomic Garden reminded us of how important these years have been. I'm thankful we were able to give songs like 'Daedalus', the first we wrote, and other favorites like 'Vertigo' and 'Kettle' new power after so many years of playing them. They made me think of the people who played on them with us. For the first time we've included information on who played on what tracks and when they were originally released. We included thank you-s in the liner notes to these musicians who've spent time with this project, on tour or on record and all of the touring crew, tag support and management support who have helped us this past decade.
