About this product

For the fourth instalment in her acclaimed Satie cycle, Noriko Ogawa has gathered music written for the stage - from the pantomime Jack in the Box (1899) to the ballet Relâche (1924) - one of Satie's last works. Several of the pieces exist in different scorings, but the piano versions heard here are all Satie's own. Throughout the program, what comes across strongly is the influence of music hall and cabaret; composed in 1900, Prélude de InchLa mort de Monsieur MoucheInch even offers a hint of the ragtime, one of the first appearances of the genre in European music. Stage projects are as a rule collaborative efforts, and among Satie's collaborators were some of the leading names of the art world at the time, including Jean Cocteau, Picasso, the Dadaist poet and painter Francis Picabia, and film director René Clair. Satie's score Cinéma has been called one of the first synchronized film scores.

Noriko Ogawa - Piano Music 5 - SUPER-AUDIO CD [Super Audio CD (SACD)]

He was a cellar master and council musician, impresario and music manager, concert promoter and composer. But above all, Johann Daniel Pucklitz was a deeply devout protestant Christian. With his Goldberg Baroque Ensemble, Andrzej Szadejko has reconstructed Pucklitz's oratorio InchThe Very Different Change and Death of the Godless and the God-fearingInch, bringing a score of incomprehensible color to new life after more than 250 years. The two-part work is already surprising in it's proportions An extensive, three-movement Sinfonia is followed by a wide-ranging chorale motet, which also brilliantly brings out the soloists in the aria sections. Pucklitz was probably following the expectations of the Gdansk public, for he composed such works on his own account and at his own risk. Pucklitz's sense of dramaturgy and tonal effect is fascinating. The instruments of the large orchestra are used sparingly but very effectively, including solo bravura parts. And while the wicked celebrate with timpani and trumpets in the first part before breaking out into fearful lamentation, redemption and eternal peace beckon to the godly in the second part. Pucklitz has saved several sonic surprises for this finale A glass harp lends the InchDesired Hours of DeathInch almost unearthly magic, while harp and cymbals delicately and gently prepare the triumph of the heavenly kingdom - a grandiose finale that no one can resist.

Bob Catley - Far Away Live In Concert (Recorded In Holland) - VINYL LP

Born in Aldershot on 11 September 1947, Bob Catley moved with his family to Birmingham, where he attended Central Grammar School for Boys before leaving to begin an apprenticeship at the GPO and later pursuing music after meeting like-minded students at college. He played in several early bands before joining The Capitol Systems, later renamed Paradox, who recorded several tracks for Mercury Records after attracting the attention of Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt, toured Europe, and split in 1970. In 1972 Catley co-founded Magnum with guitarist Tony Clarkin, becoming the house band at Birmingham's Rum Runner and developing their signature style through live residencies, leading to early success with the album Chase the Dragon (1982). The band achieved major commercial success in the mid-to-late 1980s with albums including On a Storyteller's Night, Vigilante, Wings of Heaven, and Goodnight L.A., before losing major tag support and eventually disbanding in the mid-1990s. After a brief period with Hard Rain, Catley launched a highly successful solo career beginning with The Tower, written by Gary Hughes, followed by Legends, both praised for capturing the classic Magnum sound, supported by notable live performances and releases that remain essential listening for fans of melodic rock.
