About this product
With Northtale, I wanted to start the band that I wasn't able to when I was 16 years-old. So says Brazilian-American guitarist Bill Hudson, who has made a name for himself over the past 15 years working with artists including Doro, Jon Oliva's Pain, U.D.O., Circle II Circle, Trans-Siberian Orchestra and David Vincent's I Am Morbid. In spite of these achievements, it was in 2017 that Hudson was finally able to realize his dream by launching his own band, Northtale, and releasing the debut album InchWelcome To ParadiseInch two years later. At it's core, Northtale is Hudson's solo project in the same way guitar legend Jeff Waters works under the Annihilator name, but the goal was to turn it into a real band. Heavily influenced by early Stratovarius, André Matos-era Angra, and Keeper-era Helloween, Northtale draws heavily from their respective catalogues, all of which can be heard with scorching clarity on the new album. Northtale is also heavily influenced by the rich musical culture of Hudson's Brazilian homeland, something that is most apparent on the album InchEternal FlameInch, especially on the song InchLand Of Mystic RitesInch, which recalls Angra's legendary song InchCarolina IVInch. Adding to Northtale's sound embracing Hudson's Brazilian roots is the addition of vocalist Guilherme Hirose, who hails from Hudson's hometown of São Paulo and came on board more by fate than design.

Situated in northern Thailand, Chieng Mai is currently the country's largest city. Over it's long history, the city and surrounding province were attached to a variety of rulers and exposed to diverse populations, becoming a melting pot of cultural traditions and ethnicities. As a result, the local culture reflects Chinese, Malay, Burmese, Laotian, and especially Khmer and Thai influences. This 1975 recording features three Thai ensembles performing three different compositional styles that reflect the musical syncretism unique to this region. The first of them, liké, is a traditional theater form incorporating music and dance that has largely disappeared. The second composition features a style of music typically played during religious ceremonies, and illustrates Chinese influences. The final selection features centuries-old melodies played by the kruang say Thai doeum (old Thai instrumental ensemble), which has Laotian and Khmer influences. The liner notes describe the musical traditions of the Chieng Mai region. This album is part of the UNESCO Collection of Traditional Music. More than 125 albums are being released by Smithsonian Folkways Recordings to make the series publicly available, including a dozen never-released albums of musical traditions from around the globe.

Odelet is a multi-faceted artist born in Detroit MI, currently based on the West Coast. Her unique writing draws inspiration from countless musical styles, dissolving the lines between genre. More than just a gifted singer and songwriter, Odelet is a producer, writing and performing nearly all her own instrumentation. This album pays homage to classic Hip-Hop production and siren singers. The album features a blend of jazz-influenced vocals and old school Hip-Hop-inspired production, showcasing Odelet's versatility and deep-rooted passion for music. InchPisces PieInch builds on the foundation she laid with her previous work, further solidifying her place as an innovative and boundary-pushing artist.

In his upcoming album, «Brightlight,» Cohen showcases his multifaceted talents alongside a stellar ensemble of musicians. Among these are some of the brightest young talents from the new jazz scene, including drummer Roni Kaspi, pianist Guy Moskovich, his working core trio as the centre on many of the titles and joined by saxophonist Yuval Drabkin and many others hand-picked talented artists. Roni Kaspi brings a youthful vigor to the album, infusing the music with a sense of spontaneity and drive. After more than 3 years of touring with Avishai Cohen, she's even got a dedicated title on this recording (InchRoni's SwingInch), wrote by Cohen as an homage to her dynamic and energetic drumming. Guy Moskovich, a pianist whose harmonic sensibilities and technical prowess have garnered him recognition as a rising star in jazz, provides the perfect complement to Cohen's bass lines. Yuval Drabkin, on saxophone, adds another layer of richness to the extensive ensemble. His emotive playing and nuanced interpretations bring a compelling voice to the project, enhancing the album's overall depth.
