About this product
Shostakovich was in his early thirties when he first turned to the string quartet. He planned to produce a full cycle of 24; he completed 15. These works embody his resistance to a crushing Soviet power that held the belief that all art should be political. At the same time, he used them as a means of personal, autobiographical expression, aimed at presenting a true depiction of himself as a man and an artist. Bringing together Nos. 3 and 8, the Novus Quartet make Shostakovich's revolt tangible, while faithfully representing the magnificent, heartrending world of this great composer.

Novus quartet # 1 Ludwig Van Beethoven, Anton Webern, Isang Yun The Novus String Quartet was founded in 2007 at the National University of the Arts in Seoul. After critical success in Korea, they moved to Germany in 2011. This début album sits at the crossroads of their Korean and German influences. Demonstrating prodigious technique at the service of exceptional musicality, their versions of Werbern's Langsamer Satz and Beethoven's String Quartet No.11 stand up to any comparisons. Isang Yun's Quartet No.1 integrates Korean musical folklore with dazzling colors in the style of Bartók.
