Nury Guarnaschelli - Horn Concertos - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

This is no deception - right from the first work of this recording, a concerto from the rich oeuvre of Bach's contemporary Johann Friedrich Fasch, a 'Brandenburg' mood is set and this becomes increasingly tangible as the music unfolds. After virtuoso pieces by Johann David Heinichen, Gottfried Heinrich Stolzel and Melchior Hoffmann, the Leipzig St. Thomas Cantor himself ultimately surprises us with the Sinfonia to his Cantata 174, a splendid, lavishly-scored variant of the first movement from the third Brandenburg Concerto. This is a great challenge for the two main protagonists, who perform true marvels on their natural horns and trumpets together with the inspiring ensemble L'arpa festante.

GENUIN fans have already admired the horn playing skills of Christoph Eß on many occasions, including in the albums of German hornsound, the celebrated ensemble founded by Christoph Eß. Now the solo hornist of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra presents four effervescent, lively and soulful concertos by Mozart with the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra, perfectly laid out and light as a feather. With his colleagues from German hornsound, he plays-as an encore, so to speak-a quartet of Madsen with tongue-in-cheek and breathtaking virtuosity. Horn couldn't be better! Christoph Eß is considered today one of the leading hornists of his generation. In addition to his work as solo horn of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, he is a laureate of numerous international competitions and also appears as a sought-after soloist and chamber musician.

The French horn is notoriously difficult to play. You can practise all you like but there is no guarantee that the note you blow into the mouthpiece is the same one which will come out of the bell once it has travelled through all the twists and turns of the tubing. However, when all goes well, the horn is glorious and I absolutely love being a horn player, even with all risks - and maybe even because of them. (Sarah Willis) After the enormous success of Mozart y Mambo (ALPHA578) which went straight to Number 1 in Germany on in 2020, Alpha has decided to reissue one of the first albums recorded by this multi-talented and tireless ambassador of the French horn. In this re- of the 2014 album, Horn Discoveries, Sarah Willis demonstrates all the rich potential of her instrument with exciting original compositions and beautiful arrangements of well-loved repertoire pieces such as Tchaikovsky's Souvenir d'un lieu cher, Dvorak's Humoresque, Bizet's Les Pêcheurs de Perles and Debussy's Clair de Lune.
