Nuske / Wedemeier - Velvet Touch - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Answering the call of the ancestral fires and forest spirits, Hulder returns with it's third full length statement Verbolgen. Over the course of those three albums, Hulder has evolved from the vision of a solitary black metal entity into something more expansive and collaborative, though still guided by the strident vision of it's creator and namesake. On Verbolgen long-time session member Necreon steps forward to join Hulder as full-fledged co-conspirator, amplifying the duos sweeping solemnity. Across nine tracks, Verbolgen deepens Hulder's characteristic balance of scathing black metal and windswept melancholy through increasingly layered arrangements and ritualistic atmosphere. Whether with the brutal immediacy of InchView from NemetonInch or the ceremonial mid-paced summoning of InchIn Blood and In Earth,Inch Hulder's signature sound is more immense and malevolent than ever. Joined on session drums by both Vapula (the band's live drummer) and Vrolok of the legendary Aeternus as well as live second guitar player Keld (Majesties, Obsequiae), who here contributes additional leads, keys and hurdy gurdy, the Hulder universe widens it's collaborative disposition to a new creative level. As with the previous album Verses In Oath the mix has been handled by Ahti Kortelainen at Tico Tico Studio in Finland, giving the album an earthy resonance befitting it's obsessions with blood, landscape and spiritual inheritance. Verbolgen also features cover art created by Morrigan of Aeternus, her first cover work since contributing art for the earliest Aeternus LPs nearly thirty years ago. The result is a towering and immersive work that cements Verbolgen as the most potent and immersive expression of Hulder's artistic vision to date.

Only time can tell if a musical composition will be considered a InchclassicalInch piece by future audiences, but as Danish music critic Søren Schauser has predicted InchIn a couple of years we will see pieces by an Ellington or a Peterson in regular concert programs in entirely classical contexts.Inch With InchTheTouchInch Søren Kristiansen and Thomas Fonnesbæk present their take on a classical piece of jazz, playing the music of Oscar Peterson and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen - classical but improvised! OP and NHØP gave us something unique and unforgettable, just as the classical composers did and still do. Being the world's greatest virtuosos on piano and double bass respectively, their immense technique and 'Touch' made them unique. Their collaboration was likewise special because they were equals. For instance, Oscar Peterson's arrangement for InchOn The TrailInch (Great Connection, 1971) was presumably written because he had found a bassist that could keep up both musically and technically. OP & NHØP gave us something extraordinary and unforgettable, exactly like the great classical composers did and continue doing - and now Kristiansen and Fonnesbæk share their idea of how it could be played today.
