NVIDIA - GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition 32GB GDDR7 PCI Express 5.0 Graphics Card - Dark Gun Metal

I've been using a 4090 Founders Edition since it launched in 2022. It powered through every game at high/max settings at 4K. I did not need or intend to upgrade to a 5090, but I tried my luck on launch day just to see how crazy the demand was. After a minute of so of "waiting in line," I was amazingly able to add the 5090 FE to my cart and check out with no problems. Kudos to Best Buy for a smooth launch and very fast shipping, but NVIDIA should have waited to launch these cards until they had produced enough to satisfy initial demand. The 5090 FE is a thing of beauty. When I opened the box, I was shocked at its compact 2-slot size. It fits perfectly in my NZXT H510 Flow case. Thankfully, NVIDIA has angled the 12VHPWR connector so the cable no longer rubs against the side of my case. The gun metal finish looks excellent in my case and it should look good in almost any build. Even in my small case, the 5090 FE stays very cool. When gaming at 4K, I rarely see temperatures rise above 73° (they usually hover just under 70°). Unlike the 4090 FE, the 5090 FE does not exhaust air from the back of the card and out of your case. Instead, the 5090 FE uses a "double flow through" design that exhausts air directly into your case. If your CPU uses an air cooler, this could be a cause for concern. But it hasn't had a significant impact on my CPU temperatures using an AIO. Performance is, of course, excellent. Gaming at 4K, I'm seeing anywhere from a 15 to 30 percent increase in FPS on a wide range of games (without using DLSS 4). Enabling the new DLSS 4 frame generation features in certain games improves FPS even more, but I'm not completely sold on this technology. Certain games with DLSS 4 like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle initially experienced massive amounts of stuttering and input lag with DLSS 4 enabled, although game updates have fixed most of these issues. However, if you have a 4080 Super or a 4090, I can't say there's a compelling reason to upgrade to the 5090 (especially if you have to pay more than MSRP for a 5090). Still, if you game in 4K or higher and have the chance to purchase a 5090 Founders Edition, I would jump on it. You really can't go wrong.

I bought the RTX 5090 Founders Edition a few weeks ago, upgrading from my RTX 4090, and after using it daily for gaming, content creation, and a bit of AI work, here’s my honest take. Performance: Right away, the performance jump is noticeable in demanding titles. At 4K, I’m getting around 30–40 percent more FPS compared to my 4090 in games like Cyberpunk 2077, Alan Wake 2, and Horizon Forbidden West. DLSS 4 with Multi-Frame Generation is a huge step up — frame rates feel smoother, and the image quality still looks great. Ray tracing finally feels playable at full settings without compromises. For lighter or CPU-bound games, though, the difference isn’t big — so it’s really meant for 4K or higher-refresh monitors. AI / Productivity Use: I also run Stable Diffusion and a few AI voice and image models locally, and the 32 GB GDDR7 memory makes a big difference. The card handles large models smoothly and much faster than the 4090. Rendering in Blender and DaVinci Resolve is noticeably quicker too. Design and Cooling: The Founders Edition design looks beautiful in person — clean, heavy, and premium. I like that it’s slimmer than the 4090 FE but still feels solid. Cooling is excellent; during long gaming sessions it stays in the low 70s °C, and the fans are fairly quiet. My PSU is 1000 W, and it handles it fine, though I can see spikes above 500 W at full load. Noise and Power: It’s not whisper-quiet, but it’s quieter than most aftermarket cards I’ve owned. The only trade-off is power draw — this thing is hungry. My UPS shows a clear jump in power usage while gaming, but that’s expected from a top-end card. Price vs Value: At $1,999, it’s expensive. If you already have a 4090, the upgrade doesn’t feel essential unless you really want the newest tech or you’re into AI, 3D, or heavy 4K+ workloads. But if you’re coming from anything older, it’s a massive leap and feels future-proof for years. Overall Verdict: I’m very happy with the purchase. It’s insanely fast, well-built, and surprisingly efficient for its power. The 5090 FE is overkill for most people, but for enthusiasts like me who want the best performance and cutting-edge features, it truly delivers.

I shouldn't feel this way, but I do feel incredibly lucky to have gotten this 5090 for the REAL MSRP of $2000 on just the 2nd chance these went on sale at BestBuy since their launch about a month ago. Crazy how far we've come that a $2000 price tag is something people feel lucky about. That said, if you want this card you are likely one of the following: 1. Someone who always wants the best PC Gaming gear, even if you don't really need it, but want to push the max settings at high frame rates and resolution (4K+or VR) in all of the latest games. 2. Someone who is technical and uses it for work or hobby, whether that is AI, High-Performance Computing, Rendering, CAD etc. I'm a mix of both and I've always bought the highest end GPUs I can imagine and here we are. One thing I will ask my fellow enthusiasts who were also lucky enough to get one of these GPUs is to PLEASE only buy what you actually need. Do not buy these to sell them, have some empathy and remember how you felt before you scored yours and let others have a chance to get these magnificent beasts at MSRP. As for the card itself, there is some awesome stuff and some so-so stuff about it. - The Nvidia Founder's Edition cooler is both amazing and a step-back in some ways compared to previous 3090/4090 FE. It is only 2 slots now instead of 3.5 slots, but it is nearly the same height and length, it just isn't as thick. It also has a dual pass-through design so you will want to make sure your case has good airflow for both intake and exhaust. While the dBA is maybe slightly louder, the 5090 cooler has a more pleasant tone and there is less "gushing" of air through the back of the card. Temps do get slightly higher under prolonged load but overall this is an amazing feat of engineering from Nvidia given the reduction in size with simultaneous increase in power (450W to 575W max). I still kind of wish they kept it to 3 slots with the dual flow through design however. - The 12v2x6 power connector is still a problem on the 5090 just like the 4090. Recently, it was revealed that the main cause of the adapter potentially melting is that Nvidia reduced the number of power phases on the 3090 from 3x12v to 1x12v. So instead of 600W being distributed across 3 wires, it potentially can all go to a single wire on the connector, leading to catastrophic failure. We'll have to keep an eye on this, if Nvidia needs to issue a revision or recall or not, but I obviously did not let this stop me from buying and using the card, but I am using the ugly Nvidia adapter instead of a 3rd party cable or even a 3rd party cable from the PSU makers. - The uplift in performance is 30% on average with up to 50% in 4K or very demanding games. This is one of the smallest uplifts ever for an Nvidia flagship card, but a lot of that has to do with this being the same process node compared to 4090. Also, 4090 was one of the best generational uplifts ever, so you have a great generation followed by a very average uplift so its a bit jarring in comparison. Still, that doesn't diminish the fact Nvidia was able to improve this card in many ways without the typical process node improvement typically needed. I posted some 3D Mark pictures and you can see, the THREE KINGS from 3090 > 4090 > 5090 is roughly 2x then just 1.3x, but still very impressive at nearly 2.5x from 3090 to 5090. So even in 5 years we've come a long way. - 32GB VRAM and nearly 2TB/s of bandwidth is CRAZY for AI work, rendering, HPC and even VR. You can fit entire AI models here even when 24GB isn't enough and you'll never have to turn down texture quality for as long as you own the card. - There's a few known issues with these cards. Flickering screen and PCIe 5.0 were issues, I never had PCIe 5.0 problems on an AMD X870 and 9800x3D system, but I did have a flickering issue on a 2nd screen. The latest 2/27/2025 drivers have drastically improved the flickering to almost completely stop it. Nvidia also has a ROP issue on some cards but it doesn't seem like the Nvidia FE cards are impacted as badly. Use GPU-Z to make sure you have all 176 ROPs. Hopefully if you are interested in this card, supply improves and more cards start appearing more frequently. Even though this card doesn't perform quite as well (5-10%) of the larger partner cards, it looks the best, is very small, quiet and elegant and just is amazing to behold. It is also the only true MSRP card out there without paying 20-30% premiums or more.....just be patient, more cards will arrive and hopefully by then, Nvidia works out some of the kinks with this 50 series launch.

The best consumer graphics card presently by a large margin. The Founders Edition is the only reasonably priced model and I consider myself lucky to have one. Performs perfectly and the temps are great. No coil wine at all. Great aesthetic in my gaming rig. Couldn’t be happier with this purchase!

I recently upgraded to the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 32GB, and as someone who’s upgraded to every new top-of-the-line NVIDIA consumer GPU for as long as I can remember, I can confidently say this one is phenomenal. I game on a 42-inch C5 4K screen, and the card handles everything I throw at it with ease — from ultra-demanding AAA titles to intensive creative workloads, performance is absolutely flawless.
