October Fall - A Season In Hell - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

After staying relatively quiet for six years (only a split and compilation to speak of), Chile's Diabolical Messiah returns with their sophomore album and follow-up to 2010's Satan Tottendemon Victory!!!. Demonic Weapons Against The Sacred packs a tremendous, true death metal punch with ten, riff-filled hymns. Out March 31st on Dark Descent Records.

The pianist Jan Johansson's revolutionary jazz treatments of traditional Swedish folk songs were a few years away, and he had yet to experiment with modal playing and avant-garde jazz. At this point, he was still playing mostly hard bop, which is the style that dominates here. It gets off to an impressive start with four recordings from Johansson's first session with alto saxophonist Arne Domnerus in 1959. After that, Johansson is heard as a trio pianist in 1959 and 1960. The Swede's expressive pianism demonstrates that while Bud Powell had been a big influence on him, he was quite willing to incorporate the ideas of others who came along, ranged from Bill Evans to Red Garland. Like Miles Davis and John Coltrane, Johansson was far from complacent; he believed in challenging himself and continuing to forge ahead.Exactly Like You2 14Where Or When4 04Sometimes I´m Happy3 04There´s A Small Hotel3 14Younger Than Springtime5 50Love For Sale5 40Autumn Leaves3 12Now See How You Are6 40Mack The Knife2 54Serenade In Blue2 59Beck´s3 25Swingin´ The Blues5 36Serenade In Blue (Alt Take)2 51Beck´s (Alt Take)3 25Swingin´ The Blues (Alt Take)5 41Suburban Street3 44

All Hell returns from the shadows with their fifth full-length album, Sunsetter. From their origins in Asheville, North Carolina in 2013, the band has carved a singular path through the underground, blending elements of first wave black metal, deathrock, punk, and film score atmospheres into something entirely their own. Sunsetter is the culmination of years of evolution and hardship, a concept record that stretches from ancient myth to modern apocalypse, driven by fire, blood, and vision.
