About this product
Everything Oddjob undertakes turns to gold; an observation that has resulted, since 2002, in three Grammy Awards, a Manifest Galan Music Award and a Grand Prix de l'Académie Charles Cros, rewarding five of the ten albums the group has released over the last twenty years. After the of three thematic albums, this tenth recording, Kong, brings together for the first time in ten years the original compositions of the five members of the collective founded in 1997. The artists mold atmospheric music, allowing each individual personality to emerge while maintaining an implacable group dynamic. Smart grooves and incursions into electronics give this recording a sonic texture as rich as it is creative, as delicate as it is multifaceted, brushing against mysteriously captivating landscapes. But it is also and above all the unique working method, on the borderline between science and jazz, between rock and contemporary music, capable of organizing it's sound with an almost mathematical approach, that marks out this quintet as one of the most audacious combos on the Scandinavian jazz scene.

Oddjob, a Swedish jazz quintet consisting of trumpet, alto saxophone, bass, piano, and drums, in their own words plays jazz, jazz with a beat. Music with a strong identity of its own but clearly inspired and rooted in the soul jazz of the 1960s and 70s. Since 2002, Oddjob has recorded 8 highly varied albums, one of which, a jazz album for children entitled Jazzoo, received a Swedish Grammy and another of which, entitled Clint, features themes from classic western films reworked in a jazz style. In their current , entitled Folk, Oddjob is inspired by and is improvising over ancient Swedish pastoral Music. Cow herding and goat callings mixes fantastically well with the contemporary jazz played by this five piece band.
Finally, the Swedish Grammy Award-winning album Folk with eminent jazz group Oddjob is released in a gorgeous new . On the album, Oddjob turns to the past in order to see the future, blending traditional Swedish folk music expressions with contemporary jazz. The seven tracks are all inspired by the Caprice Records classic Ancient Swedish Pastoral Music. When Folk was first released in the fall of 2015, 50 years had passed since celebrated jazz musicians Jan Johansson, Bengt-Arne Wallin, Georg Riedel, and Bengt Hallberg were instructed by the Swedish Radio to make a similar excavation in the Swedish folk music archives, resulting in the album Adventures in Jazz and Folklore. But that's where the similarities end. This new edition of Folk has been specially remastered and edited for the , and promises a listening experience unlike any other.
