Ole Schmidt - Symphony No. 4 [COMPACT DISCS] date 06/04/2013

Carl Nielsen - Complete Symphonies / Ole Schmidt, London Symphony Orchestra / All six symphonies of Carl Nielsen in one collection, performed by the London Symphony Orchestra and legendary conductor Ole Schmidt. These recordings are what brought Schmidt his first international acclaim and established him as a foremost authority on performing his countryman's works, and these recordings are regarded as the finest made of these symphonies. Review 'The Inextinguishable' and No.5 are amongst the best-paced on record, No. 4 preferable to Karajan on DG... devastating account of Sinfonia Semplice (No. 6) is surely Schmidt's greatest achievement... No-one should jump to conclusions about this symphony before having heard the burning intensity Ole Schmidt brings to it. -Gramophone
