About this product

Brother of the more known, Giovanni Battista, oboe and flute virtuoso, He was judged to be an ingenious composer on a par with Corelli and Geminiani. The success of these Sonatas, was largely due to their particular instrumental use, at a time when the 'flauto traversiere' was becoming increasingly fashionable; the flute performance of this CD fully adheres to the canons of articulatory practice (bisyllabic phonetics) of the first half of 18th century Europe.

Orchestra Barocca di Cremona - 5 Concertos Op. XIX - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Giordani's activity was indeed fashionable, having success both with operas and with instrumental music. The composition of these flute concertos dates back to an unspecified period of the 18th century, but their structure is unquestionably within the golden classical principles of the sonata form, allowing us to place them temporally between 1765 and 1775. The concertos offer the listener a realistic glimpse of the flute technique of the time that would soon see the Romantic Era blossom. In this recording, the instrument used is a copy of a mid-eighteenth-century C. Palanca, with a diapason of about 420 hz.

Plants & Animals - La la Land - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

2010 sophomore album from the Canadian Indie Rock/Pop outfit. It's not easy to tag the kind of music that Plants & Animals make, but it's easy for it to feel instantly familiar. Maybe that's because they record to tape and their records sound like they could have been made in 1972. La La Land is louder and tougher than their debut album, Parc Avenue (2008) but also showcases them at their smoothest and most cohesive to date. Inspired by a rediscovery of electric guitars, amplification and fuzz pedals, it takes US up and away from Parc Avenue's Montreal-in-the-summer vibe and out into the Rock 'n' Roll ether.

Cambini / Orchestre De Chambre Paul Kuentz - Sinfonie Concertanti Per 2 Flauti E Orchestra - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

This recording focuses on concertante works for two flutes and orchestra by Italian contemporaries of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. There is documentary evidence for Mozart and Cambini having met in Paris. Common to all three works are high-spirited introductory Allegros and brilliantly scored, virtuosic Rondos. The wonderful Largo in Cimarosa's Concerto is particularly attractive a true 'Dance of the blessed spirits for two flutes'. Flutists Domique Hunziker and Anne Utagawa have been working together for many years. They founded the group 'les joueurs de flute' in 1985. The ensemble features a line-up of eight outstanding performers from Switzerland, Germany, and Japan. For this , Hunziker and Utagawa are joined by the Orchestre de Chambre Paul Kuentz.
