While these two works address serious and challenging themes, they are simultaneously filled with hope and optimism. InchRemember to ForgetInch is both a chamber symphony and an opera without words, inspired by the biography of one of the great composers of our time, György Ligeti. InchChildren's War DiariesInch is a symphony for chamber orchestra in five short movements, inspired by a visit to the Children's Memorial at Yad Vashem and the overwhelming starkness of the Children's Memorial and the blazing Jerusalem sunlight.

The Chamber symphonies come from the last decade of his life, the First for string orchestra, from the same year as the 18th symphony... it is pastoral in character, closer in feeling to a divertimento or sinfonietta... The Fourth... unremitting as late Shostakovich, and strongly valedictory in feeling. A haunting piece, music of real substance. (Penguin Guide 3 stars)
