About this product

Guy Braunstein, who was concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra for nearly fifteen years, pursues an international career as soloist, conductor and composer. His lifelong passion for the music of the Beatles led him to compose this suite for violin and orchestra which includes all the greatest hits of John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison, performed here with the Liege Royal Philharmonic under a longstanding musical partner, the Mexican conductor Alondra de la Parra. This large-scale rhapsody, based on a dozen Beatles songs, pays tribute to a group of musicians who were greatly influenced by Classical and Romantic composers. To accompany this first recording, two English works for violin and orchestra, The Lark Ascending by Ralph Vaughan Williams and the rarely performed Violin Concerto of Frederick Delius, which - like so many Beatles hits - was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London!

Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liege - Mernier: Ustica - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

This album, Ustica, marks a further stage in the firmly established relationship between Benoît Mernier and the record tag Cypres, which over the course of 25 years has traced the evolution of the composer's musical language and the affirmation of his artistic identity. It will be released to coincide with the premiere of his new opera, Bartelby, at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie.Ustica marks a milestone in this collaboration, painting a portrait of a composer and offering testimony to a long-standing artistic partnership. Ustica reveals a moment of maturity in which formal rigour, poetry, and memory intertwine. The two symphonic movements contrast a contemplative adagio shaped by Baudelaire (Comme d'autres esprits) with a bright, virtuosic scherzo (Sur un ciel immense), a joyful tribute to Philippe Boesmans. Offering, for alto voice and ensemble, sets three spiritual poems by Rabindranath Tagore to music in a continuous flow moving from longing and hope to joy. Deux poèmes pour violon et piano, dedicated to Jacques de Decker, explore memory through a playful and light-hearted style of composition consisting of fragments and snippets. Finally, Ustica, inspired by a poem by Octavio Paz, unfolds an orchestral meditation on life, death, and memory that oscillates between sun-drenched stillness and the mysterious fluidity of incantatory melodies.

Debussy / Idil Biret - Solo Edition 10 & 11 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

This newest from the Naxos Idil Biret archive features the works of Claude Debussy. InchFor well versed insiders of music, Idil Biret is since years a trusted, respected and beloved artist... The discipline of her powerful grasp and approach of the music has led, especially for works of our century, to a stylistic congruence between the written score and the interpretation...(that) makes us all aware of an outstanding artistic potency of the highest standards of excellence!Inch (DIE WELT, Germany 1979) InchIdil Biret takes the opening movement of Debussy's Children's Corner very briskly and impetuously, but the performance then settles down and is sensitive and well characterized, especially the closing Golliwog's Cakewalk. Good recording and recommendable couplings too.Inch (PENGUIN GUIDE, England 2009) InchThere is no question whatever that Biret's reading of the Ravel Gaspard de la nuit takes it's place among the most delicately wrought Ravel interpretations by any of the many great pianists renowned for their performances of French piano music.Inch (SOHO WEEKLY NEWS, USA 1977)
