About this product
Ernst von Dohnanyi was one of the most versatile and influential musicians of his time but his works are now seldom played. A gap which Capriccio want to fill now with this fifth recording of his late romantic, sensual music, deeply rooted in the Austro-German classical tradition. An appetizer is the overture of the one-act opera Tanta Simona, which has plenty of that Italian flair to show for that runs through the opera's plot. After it's premiere in 1910, the Suite in F-sharp minor Op.19 became one of the most performed Dohnányi's works, whereas the American Rhapsody Op.47, which is full of quotations with American folk melodies, was his last orchestral work, first performed in 1954 at Ohio University. Finally his 8 years younger colleague Leó Weiner shows us in his early composition, the Serenade in F minor (1906) apart from the influence of the German and Austrian romantics, typical Hungarian colors and rhythms.

Slightly the audience remember that I'm - as a descendant of writing tonal music - still alive and continue composing. (Walter Braunfels, 1946) Walter Braunfels is a composer whose music died twice Once when the Nazis declared his music Inchdegenerate artInch. Then again when post-war Germany had little use for the various schools of tonal music; when the arbiters of taste considered any form of romantic music - almost the whole pre-war aesthetic - to be tainted. This 9th of Capriccio's Braunfels Edition shows us also an open-minded composer who experimented with Jazz elements in his Divertimento for radio-orchestra in 1929.
![Mayer / Kupiec / Klenke Quartett - Emilie Mayer - COMPACT DISCS [CD]](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/2e8b4a7f-180c-4e20-bf34-de6421f8755c.jpg;maxHeight=422;maxWidth=264?format=webp)
Miss E. Mayer is a rare phenomenon. [...] here we can see a female composer writing not merely for the pianoforte, but also solving the arduous task of orchestral composition, swarming with thousands of secrets. And how she solves it! (Neue Berliner Musikzeitung 32, 1878) In the German-speaking area, it was Clara Schumann and Fanny Hensel that towered beyond the borders and, at the turn of the 20th century, it was Amy Beach in the USA and even more so Ethel Smyth in Great Britain that became icons of the women's movement in music. Still hardly present is the music by the German Romantic composer Emilie Mayer. At the age of five, she began receiving piano lessons, and in the early 1840s none other than Carl Loewe in Stettin was her teacher. In her music, presented here, we encounter familiar classical form patterns, yet the focus is placed on the colorfulness of her music, which constantly holds new phrases and impulses, and with which she presents herself as one of the most important female representatives of Central European music in the 19th century.
![ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra - Miloslav Kabelac: Symphony No. 2; Overtures - COMPACT DISCS [CD]](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/45dcfa70-4f8f-4e06-84bd-f9c95610baf1.jpg;maxHeight=422;maxWidth=264?format=webp)
Miloslav Kabelac ranks among the most significant Czech composers of the 20th century. Alongside Antonin Dvorak and Bohuslav Martinu, he is recognized as one of the greatest Czech symphonists, and his work represents a cornerstone of Czech musical heritage. His work encompasses nearly all musical genres except opera, but at it's core are eight symphonies, each with a unique orchestration. With the czech conductor Jakub Hrusa the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra had a welcome expert for this recording, as he examines carefullythese rich orchestrated scores of this still underrated music and composer.
