Brilliantly recorded CD... choir makes us understand all about sexual abandon - 'I am bursting out all over' is a joy... soprano makes a rapturous contribution... delectable, ravishing climaxesInch (Penguin Guide 3 stars) Inchthe digital sound means we notice things not discovered before the piano part, and superb tuba contributions... The clarity of the consonants when the chorus hisses out the words 'O fortuna' in the closing section is very telling... splendid playing - trumpets and horns are joyously thrusti ng, the solo bassoon most piquant, while in their round dance the strings are positively smoochy... this (Abbey Rd) version is demonstrati on classInch (Gramophone).

Although the urban landscape is not what comes immediately to mind when one thinks of Brazil, guitarist Daniel Santiago has managed to fuse the rich tropical essence of his native country with the sophisticated energy of it's vibrant cities on his second for Adventure Music, Metropole. A key member of acclaimed young mandolinist Hamilton de Holanda's Quintet, Daniel Santiago has assembled his own strong quartet of players for Metropole, which features a dozen of the guitarist's own compositions. While firmly rooted in the traditional Brazilian musical ethos that earned Santiago praise from such legendary artists as Hermeto Pascoal, Toninho Horta and Guinga, the music on Metropole is jazz at it's best-loose, open, and collaborative, improvisational and innovative. In addition to his work with Adventure Music tag mate Hamilton de Holanda's Quintet, Santiago has performed throughout the world with such internationally acclaimed musicians as Joao Bosco, Ivan Lins, Djavan and Seo Jorge. His Adventure Music debut, On the Way (2007) was lauded by Jazziz as a Inchstriking debut.Inch He will rejoin de Holanda on the mandolinist's upcoming Brasilianos II which will be released later this year on Adventure Music.
