About this product
After an almost 6 year hiatus, and the break up of the audio-visual trio it had evolved into, Origamibiro returns with Miscellany, a body of work amassed during the years since the of 2014's Odham's Standard.Miscellany comprises a varied mixture of work, ranging from electroacoustic to orchestral chamber music. Drawing upon much of the found-sound style for which Origamibiro became known, the DIY approach to sampling and composing continues to play a central role in the process.Exploration into the tangible nature of everyday objects and textures - both in and outside of the home - is a theme relished in much of Origamibiro's work. Forest brambles and plastic toy Easter eggs are examined in surgical detail alongside the debris of demolished piano parts, to be repurposed into whatever sonic potential they offer up.Miscellany will be released on Denovali, March 2021.A1. Oríkì is an album blending jazz, Fuji and Afrobeat in a powerful tribute to Yorùbá heritage. Featuring Mercury Prize-shortlisted Moses Boyd, Afronaut Zu (Steam Down, Rudimental) and spoken word artist Adesayo, Oríkì merges ancestral praise with contemporary expression. Six years in the making, the album draws inspiration from Niji's great-grandmother, Matilda Taiwo (Mata), and serves as his personal statement on identity, history, and homecoming. The album is threaded with the evocative rhythms of the talking drum, grounding each composition in cultural authenticity. With Oríkì, Niji invites listeners into his journey of reconnection, presenting a work both timeless and rooted-a musical expression of past, present and future converging.
Vinyl LP pressing. Himorogi is the tenth album by Ironomi. Divining Japanese mythology and it's relationship with nature, the album is an aural pastorale that fosters deeper territory in the realm of spiritual searching through dreamy, drifting piano, 17-string koto (jushichi-genso) and new form electronic processing. Ironomi's desire to commune with mother Earth and it's season's colors has always served as a continual inspiration for their music. In himorogi, the duo delves into a more spiritual focus in their journey towards musical impressionism. Japanese culture has long held the idea that heavenly spirits live in many elements of the natural world, such as mountains, rocks, trees, and the sea. The album title comes from the Japanese word Himorogi (??), which in Shinto terminology is translated as Inchdivine fence,Inch which refers to sacred areas that a celestial spirit enters.
