It has been three years since Gonzalo Rubalcaba's last , SUPERNOVA. Artists usually don't risk remaining out of the limelight for so long, but Rubalcaba is no ordinary jazz musician, and the inspired performances on PASEO, his latest as a leader for Blue Note, prove that the wait has ben well worth it.

Book of Curses is the debut LP by London band Adulkt Life featuring Huggy Bear's Chris Rowley, Male Bonding's John Arthur Webb and Kevin Hendrick, and drummer Sonny Barrett. Huggy Bear led the UK's answer to riot grrrl, inspired by the Inchseismic shockInch of witnessing a Nation of Ulysses performance together and galvanized by Bikini Kill drummer Tobi Vail's germinal riot grrrl zine Jigsaw. In the 25 years since Rowley played with iconic Huggy Bear, starting a new band hasn't felt right.

One of the longest running Cuban orquestas, Orquesta Aragin was arguably the finest Charanga group of 1950's and 60's Havana. They were one of the first groups to blend the traditional son with Afro-Cuban rhythms and Spanish melodies over a layer of violins and flutes, which would become synonymous with the charanga sound. The group included some of the best Cuban musicians of the era including Richard Egues, the master flautist; and were highly influential on the New York mambo scene of the late 1950's. These rare classic 1960's era recordings feature the group at the height of their powers. All selections have been newly remastered.
