Otis Rush - Live & Awesome - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Georgia Anne Muldrow releases her new album - a modern soul classic in the making - titled Overload via Flying Lotus's Brainfeeder record tag. Typically working alone, the record flips that dynamic and takes Georgia out of her comfort zone for the first time since Seeds (2003) which was entirely produced by Madlib. Overload bears the fruits of numerous collaborations, most notably with duo Mike & Keys (50 Cent, Nipsey Hussle, Snoop Dogg, G-Eazy) who contribute production to four tracks including the sleek, anthemic title track alongside Khalil (Dr Dre). Elsewhere Dutchman Moods and Manila's Lustbass bring the slo-mo funk heat on InchAerosolInch and InchVital TransformationInch respectively, and Shana Jenson (Muldrow) and Georgia's partner Dudley Perkins crop up on InchYou Can Always Count On MeInch (a cover of the Gap Band classic) and InchThese Are The Things I Like About You.Inch Flying Lotus, Aloe Blacc and Dudley Perkins share Executive Production credits on the album.

Dubbed 'The King Of West Side Chicago Blues Guitar', Otis Rush initially loved the sound of country music, his first heroes being Eddy Arnold and Bob Wills. He didn't even adopt guitar as his first instrument but started out playing mouth-harp, before eventually making the switch. Rewarding as his later records may have been, it was the early sides, as assembled here, that established his reputation as a blues great. InchThe stuff I grew up on was all on Cobra,Inch Eric Clapton once said InchYou know, Double Trouble and I Can't Quit You Baby. Otis was fantastic, a great player.Inch

Left-handed Chicago electric blues guitar giant Otis Rush is a living link to a Chicago blues scene ruled by the likes of Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf and Little Walter in the late '50s. But the harsh reality that Rush has never quite attained the status of those icons in no way is a reflection on his talents; he is in fact an unsung legend who along with Buddy Guy helped to define that distinctive, wailing West Side Chicago guitar sound that is widely copied by generations of followers all over the world today. This quintessential contains 26 remastered tracks from Rush's early years, backed by master players like Willie Dixon, Little Walter and Ike Turner. Included here is a variety of the electric blues and R&B sides Rush recorded for legendary labels such as Cobra, Chess, and Duke, between 1956 and 1962. These fabulous songs are true snapshots of that period. Some of the material here isn't available in other collections, nor have these recordings ever been previously compiled together on the same CD. Soul Jam.
