Ought - Sun Coming Down - VINYL LP

Vinyl LP pressing. On Room Inside the World-Ought's third album and first for Merge-growing up doesn't mean mellowing out so much as it means learning to pay attention, listening carefully and openly, staying somewhere long enough to really understand where you are. Recorded at Rare Book Room in Brooklyn with producer Nicolas Vernhes (Deerhunter, Animal Collective, Silver Jews), Room Inside the World explores themes that have always concerned the band- identity, connection, survival in a precarious world-but with a bolder, more nuanced sound palette. Vibraphone, justly intonated synthesizers, drum machines, and a 70-piece choir suffuse the precise post-punk breakdowns that spangled Ought's first two albums, giving rise to an emotional complexity that pushes their characteristically taut sound to greater depths. Album Tracks 1. Into the Sea 2. Disgraced in America 3. Disaffectation 4. These 3 Things 5. Desire 6. Brief Shield 7. Take Everything 8. Pieces Wasted 9. Alice

Album Tracks 1. Pleasant Heart 2. Today More Than Any Other Day 3. Habit 4. The Weather Song 5. Forgiveness 6. Around Again 7. Clarity! 8. Gemini

Vinyl LP pressing. Every Country's Sun takes two decades of Mogwai's signature, contrasting sounds - towering intensity, pastoral introspection, synth-rock minimalism, DNA-detonating volume - and distills it, beautifully, into 56 concise minutes of gracious elegance, hymnal trance-rock, and transcendental euphoria. Produced by psych-rock luminary Dave Fridmann, it's a structural soundscape built from stark foundations up; from a gentle, twinkling, synth-rock spectre to a solid, blown-out, skyward-thrusting obelisk. There's percussive, dream-state electronics (InchCoolverineInch), church organs as chariots of existential fire (InchBrain SweetiesInch), tremulous, foreboding bleeping - possibly from a dying android (Inchaka 47Inch). Their most transportive album yet, it also hosts their most fully realized art-pop sing-along of their storied history, InchParty In The Dark,Inch a head-spinning disco-dream double-helix echoing New Order and The Flaming Lips, featuring Braithwaite's seldom-heard melodic vocals declaring he's Inchdirectionless and innocent, searching for another piece of mindInch. This is music as a keep-out chrysalis, protective audio armor through exalting organs and portentous, dissonant guitar fuzz warping at the edges, bending the world inside-out into a reality in which you'd much rather live. The last three songs ascend into explosive exorcism, closing with the colossal InchEvery Country's Sun,Inch it's searching intensity whooshing towards infinity in a dazzling cosmic crescendo. Album Tracks 1. Coolverine 2. Party in the Dark 3. Brain Sweeties 1. Crossing the Road Material 2. Aka 47 3. 20 Size 1. 1000 Foot Face 2. Don't Believe the Fife 1. Battered at the Scramble 2. Old Poisons 3. Every Country's Sun
