Ozlo - Sleepbuds® 2, Noise-Masking Sleep Earbuds with Bluetooth Streaming, Sleep Detection, In-Ear Alarm, 14-Hr Battery - Blue

I am a person who has occasional difficulty both getting to sleep and staying asleep, so I was anxious to try this new technology to see if I could at least gain some insights if not improve my sleep. The first question I had to answer was if they were comfortable enough to wear while sleeping. I am a side sleeper, which means that I would be right on top of one of the sleepbuds. The 2 version has apparently been engineered to be smaller and fit flush in the ear so they are not uncomfortable while sleeping on my side and I did find that to be the case. The box comes with different sizes of silicone tips to get the right fit so they do not fall out or feel too tight. The battery life is just good enough to make it through the night, which I guess is all you need. The charging and data transfer case needs to remain close to your phone so that it can transfer "sleep session" information each morning when you put them back in to recharge. The sleep data is what I really like about this product. The sleep session details (Awake, REM, Core, Deep sleep) are beyond anything I have experienced with any other product.It also provides details on environmental noise levels, temperature, and light in the room. The last thing I will mention is that it has an alarm option, so I can hear the alarm in my ear without having to worry about waking up my wife. Yes, it is yet another case I have to carry and charge via USB-C, but I am willing to take it on my overseas trip based on what I have experienced so far.

If you have a hard time sleeping due to weird noises in your surroundings, or when traveling, or a mind that just won’t stop, the Ozlo Sleepbuds 2 might be worth considering for certain people. Think earbuds, but not quite what you think in terms of earbuds. These are not meant to be worn when walking around or about the house or at work. These are for sleep and rest only. The Sleepbuds 2 come in a larger, round, charging case. They of course include the pair of buds, as well as four sizes of silicone tips and wings that secure them to the inside of your ear, with size 2 being pre-installed on them. You also get sizes 0, 1, and 3. A USB-C charging cable is included as is a QR code to link you to the Ozlo app where you can control various aspects of the Sleepbuds. There’s no charging light on the outside of the case weirdly, but when you slide it open, you’ll see various pairing lights and a center control button and light. You seem to only be able to see the charge status of the case and each bud via the app. These do not connect to your Apple or Android phone in the traditional way most Bluetooth buds connect, as these connect to your phone through the actual charging case and app, so you need to keep the case within about 10 feet of your phone in order to keep a stable connection. Again, since these are for sleeping, you won’t be carrying the case around with you. It’s an odd way of connection, though. The way the Sleepbuds work is that you have a base of 10 sleep sounds built into the app that you can access once you set up an account. They range from nature sounds like an ocean and stream and various wind noises, to soft sounds that are basically white or pink noises, etc. There are other sounds available in the app that include things like the sound of a fan, being in a car, and more, but you need to swap out those for what’s on the device itself if you want them, so you only have 10 at a time on your case device, but can flip and flop them as you want. At the time of this writing, they have give or take, about 50 sounds in the app, and promise to add more. So far at least, I don’t see any indication that a subscription is required to access these. Once set up, you put the Sleepbuds in your ear and secure them after they’ve paired to your app and phone. They are comfortable. Very soft. The buds themselves as well as the ear wing to secure them in place. Now, Ozlo says they are also mean for side sleepers – as one, I can say they do not hurt on my side, but you DO know they’re there. I’m using the correct size bud tip, and it takes a few times to get used to them when sleeping, but again, they are not uncomfortable, but also not invisible to your brain – you do know you’re wearing them. The app along with letting you choose various sounds, allows you to set up modes that vary from allowing you to fall asleep listening to your own podcasts or music, where it will then switch over to a nature sound, or you can set it up to just listen to the built-in sounds right off the bad, or use a timer. You have varied options. There are NO mics on these, so if you get a call while wearing them, you cannot conduct your phone call through them; they are for listening only. There is also no true “noise cancelation” feature on these; instead, the sounds themselves are supposed to suppress and dissipate distracting outside noises on their own, with mixed results. I have noticed that using the timer (you can set up to 2 hours) will display the timer at the top of the app when set, but so far, it keeps playing even after the app timer runs out (?), and a few times the app has hung up when trying to use a mode and back up to use another, and I have had to close the app and reopen it again to unfreeze it. You can keep track of your sleep habits with the app as well. It does collect data, but you can turn this feature off in settings if you like. There does not seem to be a way at least that I can find in the app, of adjusting the individual volume of each bud, though. So if you want one to have a lower or higher volume than the other, so far I see no way of doing this. As far as the sounds go, most to me, are relaxing. A couple of them such as a stream, sound like a very short loop that just keeps repeating itself with an odd noise in the background that my brain fixates on. The ocean waves are so-so, but there are alternatives in the app you can replace them with. The rain and white noise sounds work best for me. Now, will these completely block out things like a loud snoring significant other, or a dog barking or kids screaming in your house? Definitely NOT. I tried playing various videos near me and in other rooms of snoring and dogs, and they again, did not fully block these. They will help diffuse the noises that are loud and indoors with you, or perhaps on a plane. I could also see these being useful for someone who’s in a hospital or physical rehab facility so they can get rest, which is impossible normally in those environments. I notice they’ve been good when my neighbor decides to leaf blow his yard at 7am, or when the neighbors across the street just has a loud party that went on until 3am. The Sleepbuds worked great in keeping those disturbing outdoor sounds out. They work well for what they are so long as you don’t expect miracles. Battery life is very good. You get about 14 hours on a fully charged set of buds (depending on volume), and can recharge them 2-3 times with the case. So, overall, I like the IDEA of the Sleepbuds 2. They do to a degree, mask out unwanted noises. They are very comfortable. Most of the sounds are relaxing and you have a decent amount to choose from, and battery life is very good. What do I not like? The case not having a charging light on the outside is odd. Needing the open case and app on to use the Sleepbuds as opposed to the more traditional Bluetooth way is also a bit quirky. The app while versatile, is so far for me a little buggy, has frozen a couple of times, and lacks a couple of basics like adjusting individual sound volume on each bud, or having any time of way to control base or treble on the sounds. And there’s the price… these are quite pricey for what they are. If you need them, you need them, and the price will be worth it to you. If you are a more casual-need type of person for this type of things, you can maybe get by with more traditional buds and a nature sound app working together. I give the Sleepbuds 2 three stars. I don’t think they’re bad at all. I just think they’re a little more of a specific niche item that could use a little work on the device and app (and price) to make them more attractive to the masses. I recommend these for people with niche uses for them, but also feel like for the majority, you may be able to get by with traditional comfortable earbuds and a nature app, for less.

I love the fact that they stay in your ear even after you fall asleep. I was a little hard to understand the operating instructions, however once I did, they worked perfectly.

As a former user of the Bose sleepbuds, I have been eager to try the Ozlo sleepbuds to see what improvements they offer over the Bose versions. The Ozlo sleepbuds were created by former Bose engineers who worked on the original versions. I loved the Bose sleepbuds, but they had poor battery life, questionable durability, and could not play any content besides a small selection of masking sounds. The Ozlo Sleepbuds are a massive improvement and could be life-changing for light sleepers. === PROS === - Setup is incredibly easy through the Ozlo app. You don’t even have to navigate to the Bluetooth settings on your phone - the app does everything for you. - The sleepbuds are extremely lightweight with a tiny profile. As a side sleeper, I can barely feel them in my ears while I sleep. The pre-installed medium tips fit perfectly in my ears, but there are four other tip sizes included in the box. - The sleepbuds are incredibly effective at blocking out noise from your partner (snoring), upstairs neighbors, city sounds, and more. They aren’t noise cancelling, but the sleepbuds form a relatively tight seal in my ears that blocks out most external noise. Combined with the masking sounds included in the Ozlo app, I have not been woken up by any external noises since I started wearing the sleepbuds. The sleepbuds can get pretty loud, but the volume doesn’t get as high as standard headphones or earbuds. - Unlike the old Bose sleepbuds, you aren’t limited to only the masking sounds included in the app. The Ozlo sleepbuds are capable of playing audio from any app, you so can fall asleep to podcasts, YouTube videos, music, etc. - Battery life is more than enough to get you through a full night - and maybe even two nights. Ozlo claims up to 14 hours of battery life on a single charge. - The charging case has built-in smart features that can track your sleep metrics, including ambient light, noise, room temperature, sleep length, and more. This information has been incredibly useful in tracking the quality of my sleep. === CONS === - I wish the charging case had built-in wireless charging, since I have a wireless charger on my nightstand. The case can only be charged via USB-C, so I now have to keep a cable on my nightstand. - The lights on the charging case seem overly bright, especially for something that is likely going to be used at night when you are trying to fall asleep. There is no way to turn off the lights or adjust the brightness. - Audio quality is decent, but don’t buy these thinking that they are high-end earbuds. Their primary purpose is noise masking, so these aren’t going to have top-tier audio fidelity. === OVERALL === I’m very impressed with the Ozlo sleepbuds. If you previously used the Bose sleepbuds, these are a significant upgrade and have become essential for me as someone living in a city with a lot of street noise. There are a few minor issues that I think Ozlo could improve in a future iteration, but overall, these are high-quality sleepbuds that can significantly improve sleep quality for light sleepers.

I saw these Sleepbuds and thought my wife should try them since her husband snores sometimes. These don’t have any sort of noise canceling or transparency mode but they use your choice of over 60 selectable sleep sounds to mask noise that might disturb a sleeper. You can also listen to audio books, music, etc on your mobile device and set them to transition to sleep sounds when they detect that you’ve fallen asleep. The app has five modes to choose from; Simple, Auto, Sensing, Time Delay, and Manual. I will attach a screenshot to save me from typing the explanations. My wife likes to read e-books on her Kindle in bed with the screen dimmed and the lights off to get her drowsy enough to fall asleep so she has them set to Simple to play the sleep sounds before she’s asleep. We noticed that the app sometimes shows her as already asleep when she’s reading, guessing that’s due to the lack of motion? Sometimes it’s very close to what her Apple watch shows though. She spent a couple nights trying different size earpieces to get the fit correct. Too large left her ears a little tender in the morning, too small and one might fall out during the night. It came with four sizes so she was able to get a good fit. The earpieces are very soft and she says they are more comfortable for overnight use than foam earplugs. She said they are very comfortable even for side sleeping but if you lay just right you can still feel the plastic ear bud a little. One comment she made was that even with them in and sleep sounds playing, she could still hear some louder sounds like toilets flushing, doors closing, showers starting, etc. The app has many features, she likes that the sleep sound volume level can be adjusted differently from her phone’s volume level and it also allows you to set multiple alarm times for different days of the week, choose from three alarms sounds, and set the alarm volume separate from the sleep sound volume. I like that the alarm plays through the sleepbuds so it only wakes her and not me since she gets up earlier than I need to. The Smart Case also has a snooze feature if you need that. The Smart Case charges the Sleepbuds each day, she’s getting four nights between charges on the case. Could probably go five nights but she would be borderline on having them run out of juice during the fifth night so it would be close. The app also gives you environmental data like room temperature, ambient light, and also marks if any loud noises occurred to help you analyze your sleep. It took her a couple nights to get used to having them in but she likes them and plans to continue using them.
