About this product

Some composers - Enescu, Schumann and Szymanowski among them - have had a go at adding piano accompaniments to Paganini's 24 Capricci for solo violin, and there are arrangements for any number of instrumental combinations. The Ukrainian Myroslav Skoryk (b. 1938) is the first composer to orchestrate all 24 of them, turning Paganini's virtuosic violin-writing into a succession of symphonic fireworks, and often injecting a touch of humor along the way. This recording is released to mark Myroslav Skoryk's 80th birthday, and is the first of a series of collaborations planned between Toccata Classics and the Lviv International Symphony Orchestra in Lviv, western Ukraine. Alexander Zemtsov has been performing as a solo violist since the age of fifteen. At the age of 23 he was appointed Principal Viola of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2012, after ten years with the Orchestra, he left to dedicate himself entirely to his demanding career as soloist, conductor and chamber musician. In 2014 he made his conducting debut with the Lviv International Symphony Orchestra, and the next year was appointed artistic director and principal conductor of the orchestra.

La Divina Armonia - Sonatas for Violin & B.C. - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Despite the fact that Jommelli owed his fame almost exclusively to his operas during his lifetime, the Requiem became his most famous work after his death; the almost one hundred handwritten and printed copies of the entire work or fragments of it that have survived in some seventy libraries throughout Europe, some also in the USA, bear witness to this. Whilst the score and parts of the first performance have been lost, we can still form a reasonably good idea of the original instrumentation thanks to a surviving list of payments made to the musicians. We know that there were eight singers (one female and seven male) in addition to Jommelli. We also know that soon after Jommelli's death the work was performed with ensembles of very different sizes But Peter Van Heyghen and Il Gardellino opted for the version that was close to the first performance and based it's own edition on the manuscript that is considered to be the primary source for the work. Van Heyghen and il Gardellino choose to constitute a vocal ensemble with the state-of-the-art singers of the moment, and the result is stunningly convincing and beautiful. Album Tracks 1. Sonata in G Major for Violin and Basso Continuo, BWV 1021 2. Sonata in E minor for Violin and Basso Continuo, BWV 1023 3. Sonata in D minor for Violin and Basso Continuo, BWV 964 4. Sonata in C minor for Violin and Basso Continuo, BWV 1024 5. Sonata in F Major for Violin and Basso Continuo, BWV 1022 6. Adagio in G Major for Harpsichord BWV 968

Orquesta Sinfonica del Principado de Asturias - Paganini: 24 Caprices + 1 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Paganini's success as a violin virtuoso was naturally only partly based on the fantastical, mysterious and demonic atmosphere that surrounded him. What his professional admirers captivated most of all was his unparalleled playing technique. The best impression of his musical and technical accomplishment can be gained from his most talkedabout work, the 24 Caprices opus 1 (1817), which were modelled on the similarly named pieces by Pietro Locatelli (1733). To this day the 24 Caprices are still considered the bible of violin technique. Ning Feng, First Prize winner at the 2006 International Violin Competition Premio Paganini, gives us a fresh take on his 2017 Samuel Zygmuntowicz violin, and concludes the program with the remarkable Caprice d'Adieu.
