Paganinni,Niccolo / Augustyn,Kinga - Niccolo Paganinni: 24 Caprices For Solo Violin 1 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The elegant, but impassioned musicianship of Augustin Hadelich evokes the violinists of the 'golden age' of the early and mid-20th century. Winner in 2015 of the inaugural Warner Music Prize, Hadelich now releases his first recording for Warner Classics Paganini's 24 Caprices for solo violin. These works of proverbial virtuosity were conceived by the flamboyant Nicolò Paganini to test and showcase every aspect of a violinist's skills. AsGramophonehas written, Hadelich Inchmeets and surmounts all obstacles, yet it's not technical wizardry that most impresses but his musicianship.InchHadelich's musical personality has been summarized by the Washington Postas Inchdistinct and nostalgic, never a dizzying exhibition of skill devoid of substanceInch. Similarly, Gramophonehas written that Hadelich Inchmeets and surmounts all obstacles, yet it's not technical wizardry that most impresses but his musicianship. He makes the musical sense of each piece crystal clear, and his playing has an inner life, each phrase, each note, is felt as it's played.Inch Described as a Inchbrilliant violinistInch by The New York Times, in the words of The Stradhe is Incha masterful musicianInch.

Little is known about the life of violinist Pietro Antonio Locatelli, but history has not failed US in the account of Locatelli's work, published as a magnum opus known as InchL'arte del Violino.Inch These 24 Capricci were included therein, though only as optional additions to the 12 concertos comprising the bulk of the collection. Showpieces in their own right, they rank among the most difficult music of their day - comparable even to Paganini's capricci. Stellar interpretation by violinist Emmanuelle Baldini makes this recording a fascinating addition to any early music catalog.

Andras Schiff and Peter Serkin, internationally celebrated and multi-award winning classical soloists, make their New Series debuts with Music for Two Pianos. Regarded as 2 of the greatest pianists of our time, Schiff and Serkin are very seldom heard - as they are here - as piano duo. With this recording, ECM begins a long-term relationship with Andras Schiff, a musician described by Gramophone magazine as Incha unique poetic voice among the pianists.Inch
