Pali - Pali Presents a Tribute - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

This recording features multi award winning Hawaiian artists paying tribute, with their individual interpretations, to composers, Nä Lani 'Ëha the Royal Four. Veteran singer-musicians Del Beazley, Manu Boyd, Teresa Bright, Kawaikapoukalani Hewett, Louis Moon Kaukahi and Cyril Pahinui each selected two songs that hold special meaning for them. The Queen was the most prolific composer of the 19th century and her music, along with that of her siblings, survive to this day; often recorded, and sung at backyard gatherings by descendants of the people they once ruled. While the performance styles vary here, each of the contributing artists gives masterful performances as they pay tribute to these beloved composers.

Pali Ka'Aihue founder of the group Pali (Tribute, and... WITH ALOHA) debuts his solo CD, All In. All In, features Pali on ukulele instrumentals that highlight the growing popularity of the Hawaiian instrument not only in Hawai'i, and nationally but to an even greater extent internationally. But this is not the ukulele music you're used to, think Jeff Beck or Joe Satriani meets the ukulele. Dazzling, high-energy tracks share the stage with contemplative compositions and showcase Pali's virtuosity and creative skills on this diverse instrumental CD. With seven original compositions and Pali's arrangement on three crowd-pleasing favorites, Pali's riveting performance wonderfully expands the repertoire to further boost the popularity of the ukulele.

The legendary Clarke-Boland Big Band, based on the American drummer Kenny Clarke and the Belgian pianist and arranger Francy Boland, was created in 1961 on the initiative of Pierluigi InchGigiInch Campi, who was born in Italy and lived in Cologne. He promoted and produced the Clarke-Boland Big Band who, as an independent and unmistakable voice of jazz, set standards in Europe and beyond. In 2018, the Campi family bequeathed the important legacy of Gigi Campi - consisting of several boxes of handwritten original sheet music from the Clarke-Boland Big Band - to the Bundesjazzorchester. This great honor allows the BuJazzO to preserve the legacy of the Clarke-Boland Big Band. In 2019, a first focus was dedicated to this treasure Jiggs Whigham personally selected the titles for the program from the archive. Contemporary witnesses Manfred Schoof and Erik van Lier, former members of the Clarke-Boland Big Band, were invited to the rehearsal phase in March. Afterwards the BuJazzO 2019 played twelve concerts whose extraordinary moments, energy and passion are documented live on this album.
