About this product
All in their twenties, these four young men are currently at the top tip of the Swiss jazz scene. District Five has taken time off after their debut album, the antithesis of short-term project culture. Now, with Decoy, they do justice to the album's title, throwing us a seductive bait. The aim behind the album is to transcend conventional jazz and offer a statement; it was to sound different from the experience of District Five live, using the possibilities of studio recording to mine the wealth of electronic-based sounds the quartet hears around them. Whether flowing calmly along or sweeping weightlessly through the expanses of ambient soundscapes, whether the concentrated energy of free improvisation shatters the song structure or eruptive clusters of sound and hard-edged grooves emphasise the physical aspects of the music, in the club-friendly anthem 'Maths', the multi-layered sound art of District Five is compellingly direct and builds up a hypnotic momentum. Album Tracks 1. Berlin 2. Crypto Clone 3. Reminiscence 4. Maths 5. Decoy 6. Recall

The Chicago Reader describes the Jim Black Trio with Thomas Morgan and Elias Stemeseder Inchone of the best bands in Jim Black's busy careerInch. In the HardStudios Winterthur the trio recorded this new album over two days. It is their fourth album as a trio and their second on Intakt Records. Drummer Jim Black has one of the most immediately recognizable styles in Jazz - his wonderful unhinged playing bears the mark of the rock backbeat, but he adds a clanking disruptive quality that forces his collaborators to sharpen their reflexes. InchThey find their own spaceInch, writes Kevin Whitehead in the liner notes. InchStemeseder is an original. It's not that he never backstops a right-hand melody with left-hand chords - he just does it less than most jazz pianists. He can feather the pedals or get stabby percussive, but never over-plays. The space he leaves around the piano's sound is an invitation he creates room. Like Stemeseder, Thomas Morgan has the confidence to do nothing where another accompanist might fill all the holes. His bass tone is ringing and clear, his attack has propulsive bite, and his lines sing. He provides a through-line when the other guys fracture.Inch Album Tracks 1. Astrono Said So 2. Tripped Overhue 3. Tighter Whined 4. Spooty and Snofer 5. Very Query 6. Focus on Tomorrow 7. Next Razor World 8. Neural Holiday 9. Dancy Clear Ends 10. What You Are Made from 11.
