A fictionalized account of silent film star Pearl White's rise to fame. A broad satire of silent movie making. It is a musical comedy with songs by Frank Loesser.

Featuring Frank Loesser's Oscar nominated song, InchI Wish I Didn't Love You So,Inch The Perils of Pauline is about the rise to fame of silent screen star Pearl White (Betty Hutton). Directed by George Marshall (The Blue Dahlia, Houdini), the cast includes such stars as Billy de Wolfe, John Lund, and William Demarest, plus appearances by silent screen aces Snub Pollard and Chester Conklin. Still, it's Hutton's movie all the way - her energy and charisma highlight this tribute to the golden age of moviemaking!

This classic movie is a 1947 American film directed by George Marshall and is a fictionalized account of silent film star Pearl White's rise to fame, starring Betty Hutton. The original 1914 melodrama film serial, shown in weekly instalments, featured Pearl White as the title character. Pearl (Betty Hutton) is a frustrated factory worker who aspires to become an actress. She joins a theatrical troupe managed by Mike (John Lund), but fame and fortune elude her. In desperation, Pearl takes a job at a movie studio where she finds herself in the middle of a slapstick pie fight and soon becomes famous as the star of such cliff-hanger serials as tied-to-the-tracks in the Perils of Pauline. This film is a musical-comedy vehicle for Hutton. The original songs by Frank Loesser include 'I Wish I Didn't Love You So', which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song. Paul Panzer, who played the villain in the 1914 film 'The Perils of Pauline', has a very small part in this film, as do silent-comedy veterans Chester Conklin, Hank Mann, Snub Pollard, and James Finlayson. A great classic romantic comedy not to be missed! They don't make them like this anymore... (93 minutes - 1947 - Color - 4 3).

When Navy commander Tom Dodge (Kelsey Grammer) takes charge of a run-down WWII-vintage submarine and it's ragtag crew, wackiness beneath the waves ensues! The comic stakes are high in this nutty nautical romp, as Dodge's promotion hangs in the balance during war games he is assigned to play against the more polished crew of a vessel led by a longtime rival (Bruce Dern). Lauren Holly, Rob Schneider, and Rip Torn also star. 93 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtrack English. Region Free
