Pete Christlieb - Trio Plus One: Live at Boxley's - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

On trumpet, flugelhorn and bag flute, it's Charles Cha Cha Shaw-perhaps under-billed, but certainly worthy of a good listen-laying down some post-bop, obscure and free jazz. A soulful atmosphere is provided by the likes of Ronnie Boykins on bass and Art Blakey Jr.. on drums.

First meeting in the clubs of Los Angeles' Central Avenue in the early '60s, and following separate but superlative careers, the two tenor legends reunited in the fall of 2009 to perform a couple of concerts and record this album, taking up where they left off close to 40 years ago. With original music by pianist Bill Anschell and the two headliners along with a rousing version of InchLove for Sale,Inch and a singular exploration of InchI Thought About YouInch by Hadley, the band creates a warm and swinging recording, a great document of two longtime friends and icons of American music. Inch(Caliman flaunts) a beautiful, burnished tone and remarkable fluidity...Inch - Jazz Times.
