Peter Beets - New York Trio - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Peter Beets' first two Criss Cross CDs, InchNew York TrioInch (CRC #1214) and InchNew York Trio, Page 2Inch (CRC #1237), gave the world notice of a new bop, ballads and blues virtuoso. The celebration continues with yet a third riveting effort from this Dutch sensation and his famous American colleagues, bassist Reginald Veal, and drummer Herlin Riley.

Winter in America is the 5th studio album by American Jazz vocalist Gil Scott-Heronand & keyboardist Brian Jackson released in 1974. The album is produced in a stripped-down fashion, relying on traditional African and R&B sounds. The subject matter deals with the African-American community and inner city in the 1970s. Peter Beets' fourth Criss Cross features the pianist at the helm of a piano, guitar and bass trio. This novel configuration produces a rhythmically diverse take on American Popular Songbook favorites, jazz standards, and Beets' original compositions. The disc's nine tracks encompass relaxed pre-bop swing, modern up-tempo excursions and sensitive balladry. Bassists Reuben Rogers and Ruud Jacobs, and guitarists Joe Cohn and Martijn Van Iterson excel as accompanists and soloists. Beets consistently plays on a level that earns him a place in the upper echelon of young pianists.
