Tchaikovsky / Sukmanova - Lyrical Diary - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Tchaikovsky composed songs throughout his entire career. The diversity of the genres and themes that he explored in musical form in them can be viewed as a lyrical diary mirroring his life as a composer. In the Russian language his songs are referred to as InchRomancesInch. From a stylistic point of view, they are similar to the so-called urban romances, which were very much in fashion at the time. Tchaikovsky's aim in his Romances was to express emotions directly and simply and to make them accessible to all listeners. He allowed his own very personal feelings to provide the backdrop to his songs, by concentrating on one dominating psychological motif in the lyric template, which provided him with the suitable musical intonation. German soprano Julia Sukmanova initially studied piano and composition. Later she studied singing, first as a private pupil with the Russian dramatic tenor Donat. She has been decisively influenced by teachers and singers like Montserrat Caballé, Brigitte Fassbaender and Margreet Honig and has attended the master classes of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. Pianist Elena Sukmanova lives in Hamburg. She trained as concert pianist with Prof. Leonid Sintsev at the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in St Petersburg.

In Rysum in East Frisia a particularly valuable historical organ has been preserved This unique instrument from the years 1442 and 1513 still has most of it's original pipes. The organist Lorenzo Ghielmi and the Ensemble Biscantores present here a kind of organ mass in which organ pieces and liturgical chant alternate according to the practice of the time. The Italian organist and harpsichordist, Lorenzo Ghielmi, is organist on the Ahrend organ (1991) at the Basilica di San Simpliciano in Milan, where he performed from 1992 to 1994 the complete organ works of J.S. Bach. He gives concerts throughout Europe, Japan and the USA as an organist and harpsichordist. He has made many radio and studio recordings. He plays with his instrumental ensemble La Divina Armonia and in duet with his younger brother Vittorio Ghielmi (viola da gamba and harpsichord). In France, he received the Diapason d'Or for his recordings of Bruhns and Bach. He also played organ & harpsichord in the first recordings of Il Giardino Armonico. Lorenzo Ghielmi, teaches organ, harpsichord and early music at the Milan Accademia Internazionale della Musica.
