Piano Duo Genova & Dimitrov - Complete Works for Piano 4 Hands - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

During her lifetime Marianna Martines was a highly regarded composer. In 1772, for example, the English music historian Charles Burney praised her Inchvery well writtenInch compositions, her keyboard artistry as Inchmasterly,Inch and her own person as a singer who was Inchmore perfect than any singer I had ever heard.Inch Pietro Metastasio, her mentor, valued her talent and art just as very much as did Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who frequently participated in her Inchmusical evening entertainments.Inch With these evenings, which were held Inchat least once a week,Inch she exercised a considerable influence on Vienna's music life. The cantata InchDixit DominusInch after Psalm 110 represents something like this composer's visiting card. She applied for admission to the Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna with it and became the first woman ever to be accepted to this elite circle of internationally renowned musicians. Although the cantata primarily bears the imprint of Italian Early Classicism, it juxtaposes contrapuntal work in the old style with galant and empfindsam elements in keeping with those times, and her instrumentation of it is richly varied and colorful. The sacred cantata InchCome le limpide ondeInch was the starting point for the present recording because it contains as a special feature two arias with an obbligato part for salterio (the Baroque forerunner of today's dulcimer). A stirring InchStorm-and-StressInch symphony by Marianna Martines rounds off this alubm.

The recent of the world premiere of Sergei Rachmaninoff Complete Works for Piano Duo on cpo with over 150 minutes of music on two pianos and for four hands on one piano immediately rose to No. 1 on the jpc charts. Now the famous and successful Genova & Dimitrov Piano Duo turns to the American composer Amy Beach. Her compositional oeuvre marks a high point within the great phase of consolidation experienced by art music in the United States between the Civil War and World War I. Amy Beach was not the first American woman who composed or the first America woman who earned money with her compositions; but she created a stir in the music world by forging ahead into genres in which previously only men had distinguished themselves. However, it was above all the piano that was Amy Beach's lifelong companion. She honored her instrument with solo compositions in a total of twenty-six opus numbers distributed equally over her entire compositional career from the 1880s to the 1930s. Even though her music for piano four hands or for two pianos is limited to a few compositions, they just as positively attest to their author's talent as do her works for two hands. The original version of Amy Beach's Variations on Balkan Themes op. 60 is her most extensive composition for piano two hands and the one that is the most challenging in playing technique. At the same time, the variations represent one of her most significant endorsements of folk music. Album Tracks 1. Variations on Balkan Themes for 2 Pianos Op. 60C 2. Three Pieces for Piano Four-Hands 3. Suite for Two Pianos Founded Upon Old Irish Melodies for 2 Pianos Op. 104 4. Summer Dreams for Piano Four-Hands Op. 47
