About this product
PIXIES / PIXIES AT THE BBC - 2xCD - Pixies at the BBC is available on double CD. Between 1988 and 1991 - during the band's 4AD years - Pixies recorded six sessions for the BBC, five for John Peel and one for Mark Goodier. Catching the raw energy of the band's live performances, these sessions felt immediately noteworthy, timestamping a moment when Black Francis, Kim Deal, Joey Santiago and David Lovering were motoring out front. Among the twenty-four tracks they recorded in this time period (inc. two doubles - 'Allison' and 'Wave of Mutilation') are favorites from mini-album Come on Pilgrim and three of their four 4AD studio albums. Also recorded were three covers; reworks of The Beatles Wild Honey Pie', Eraserhead's '(In Heaven) Lady in the Radiator Song' and The Beach Boys Hang On To Your Ego', a track Black Francis covered a few years later on his debut Frank Black solo album. Differing from the original 1998 compilation, this reboot sees all tracks from the six sessions now included and presented in chronological order. Something fans have been asking for. The sleeve is also new with a wonderful black and gold design by Chris Bigg now adorning it. A design that really stands out, Chris pays loving tribute here to the band's late-visual director Vaughan Oliver, using unseen archival Pixies imagery by long-time collaborator Simon Larbalestier. On the same day as this , Pixies will be in Dublin on the first night of a sold-out tour where they're playing both albums Bossanova and Trompe le Monde in full. Album Tracks 1. ![Pixies - Complete B Sides: 1988-97 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/f97103f7-fd9d-4561-b7d7-9635942bcb6c.jpg;maxHeight=422;maxWidth=264?format=webp)
Coming 25 years after it's initial and coinciding with the band's 40th anniversary, Complete B Sides by Pixies has been remastered and is being reissued this June. Collecting all the b-sides from the band's classic 4AD-era, Complete B Sides contains some of the Pixies best 'other' tracks including 'Wave of Mutilation (UK Surf)', 'Into The White' and 'The Thing' and until now, hasn't been available on vinyl.Originally released on CD in 2001, when the band were nearly a decade into a hiatus, Complete B Sides featured all 19 non-single tracks from the band's unbelievable run of 1988-1991 singles - 'Gigantic', 'Monkey Gone to Heaven', 'Here Comes Your Man', 'Velouria', 'Dig for Fire' and 'Planet of Sound'. To complete it, it concluded with the instrumental version of 'Letter to Memphis', the Trompe le Monde album track that appeared on the American of 'Alec Eiffel'.For this updated edition, all the tracks have been remastered from their original analogue tapes by Kevin Vanbergen, sounding amazingly fresh, it also completes his extensive work across the band's catalogue. This new vinyl edition works as a companion piece to the band's recent Live at the BBC compilation where designer Chris Bigg (v23) has created striking new art, taking photos from Simon Larbalestier's archive that were originally slated for use by the Pixies but later shelved. Both long-term collaborators with the band, they worked on both releases in tandem to remember and honour the band's late-visual director, Vaughan Oliver. This updated version sees six live tracks added, culled from latter Pixies releases including 1997's 'Debaser' re- . Album Tracks 1. River Euphrates 2. Vamoslive 3.
