About this product
Giovanni Benedetto Platti was born in northern Italy and spent some of his youth in Venice, where his father was a violetta player at St Mark's, before he received his court appointment as an oboist and violinist at the court chapel of Würzburg in 1722. Two years later, the music-loving and cello-playing count of Schönborn, Rudolf Franz Erwein, had managed to secure him as a musician for his own household at his small residence in the county of Wiesentheid. Platti composed - in addition to his ordinary ouptut for worldly and spiritual occasions - for the cello, the Count's favourite instrument a dozen sonatas, 28 concerti, 6 duets and over 21 trio sonatas in which the two melodic instruments are not playing at the same height. The music collection of the counts of Schönborn-Wiesentheid very probably consists of Erwein's personal music library and is today an important historical music archive. Radio Antiqua present in partly world premiere six trio sonatas from that collection, which the count could presumably have played with Platti. Album Tracks 1. Sonata for Violin, Violoncello and Basso Continuo in D Major WD 681 2. Sonata for Oboe, Bassoon and Basso Continuo in C minor WD 695 3. Sonata for Violin, Violoncello and Basso Continuo in E minor WD 677 4. Sonata for Violin, Bassoon and Basso Continuo in C minor WD 694 5. Sonata for Violin, Oboe and Basso Continuo in D Major WD 682 6. Sonata for Violin, Bassoon and Basso Continuo in D minor WD 687

The first piece to be decided was Box Balaenae by George Crumb. This composition, embellished with theatrical elements that break down the boundaries between genres, has for some time now been part of Trio Wiek's repertoire and has therefore been made the cornerstone of this program. It is around this piece that all the other recordings are centered. As pianist Florian Wiek reports, it would be futile to search for a universal musicological term to sum up this selection. Indeed, Inchthe repertoire for flute trio is limitedInch and - from an audience perspective, at least - there are few classics written for this highly unusual formation. Album Tracks 1. I. Largo Misterioso - Allegro 2. II. Largo 3. III. Andante 4. IV. Allegro Molto 5. Cendres for Alto Flute, Cello and Piano 6. I. Poco Allegretto 7. II. Adagio 8. III. Andante - Allegretto Scherzando 9. Vox Balaenae

Giovanni Platti (1697-1763) left nine Concerti per il cembalo obbligato that represent not only some of the earliest examples of keyboard and string compositions, but also - and more importantly - some of the first pieces written specifically for the newly invented fortepiano. Here, among other works, and for the first time on period instruments, forte-pianist Luca Guglielmi presents three of these groundbreaking compositions, together with the C-minor Piano Sonata and the Sonata for oboe. Caprice, being a virtuoso form, mainly for a solo instrument, dates back to the 19th century. In these times, instrumentalists were frequently also composers - they would create pieces adapted to their abilities and the caprice was the most virtuosic genre among them. It is also the main topic of this album. The caprices by Alfredo Piatti, recognized by Yehudi Menuhin as the cello's New Testament, are fraught with difficulties, but there are plenty of beautiful and varied melodies and counterpoints using almost all possibilities of the cello. To Anna Wróbel, Piatti is more than virtuosity of the caprices, it is also captivating chamber music of varied atmosphere, interpreted and arranged (Andrzej Wróbel), in a family ensemble, for two and three cellos. Anna Wróbel is a soloist, chamber musician, and teacher. She graduated in 2005 with honors from the Academy of Music Fr. Chopin in Warsaw in the class of professor Andrzej Wróbel. In 2012 she received her Doctor of Musical Arts from the same school. Album Tracks 1. Capriccio No. 1 Allegro Quasi Presto 2. Capriccio No. 2 Andante Religioso 3. Capriccio No. 3 Moderato 4.
