Features
  • Continue your Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield adventure in The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra, two new areas to explore that will be added to the Galar region as part of Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass or Pokémon Sword Expansion Pass

  • Each area offers a different adventure, where you'll be able to visit the far reaches of the Galar region and meet the people and Pokémon that live there

  • You'll also see some familiar Pokémon that didn't appear in the Galar region before, a total of over 200 Pokémon

  • The Isle of Armor - The first new adventure unlocked by the Expansion Pass will take place on the Isle of Armor, an island of the Galar region. Many Pokémon make this island their home, living freely amid the lush nature. The island is also home to a dojo for Pokémon battles.

  • Players and their Pokémon will train hard to become stronger under Mustard, the master of this dojo.

  • The Crown Tundra - The second area unlocked by the Expansion Pass is the snow-swept realm of the Crown Tundra. In this frigid yet beautiful landscape-with its jagged winter mountains and shining, silvery landscape-people live in small communities where they support and rely on one another.

  • A man named Peony will appoint the player as the leader of his exploration team in the Crown Tundra and task them with investigating the reaches of this frozen land. Players will also be able to explore the depths of the Pokémon Dens seen during Max Raid Battles.

  • What’s more, it seems several previously unseen Legendary Pokémon make the Crown Tundra their home.

  • Trainers who purchase either the Pokémon Sword Expansion Pass or the Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass soon after the launch of The Isle of Armor expansion (or players who have already prepurchased it) will be able to receive Leon's cap and tights as an early-purchase in-game bonus.

  • Players will be able to receive these items after the release of The Isle of Armor (by the end of June 2020) until 7:59 A.M. PDT on Monday, August 31, 2020.

  • ¹ To receive the above items, you'll need to open the X menu. From the X menu in your game, go to Mystery Gift, select Get a Mystery Gift, then select Get via Internet.

  • The Mystery Gift menu option will appear in the X menu after you visit your first Pokémon Center in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. (This occurs after about an hour of gameplay. However, individual gameplay time may vary.)

  • You can see the clothing items you've received by visiting an in-game boutique fitting room.

  • ² An internet connection is required to receive the above items.

  • ³ A paid Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required to receive the above items.

  • ⁴ Those who purchased the Expansion Pass before the above items were revealed will still be able to receive these items after the release of The Isle of Armor.

  • Pokémon Sword Expansion Pass is only compatible with the Pokémon Sword game, and Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass is only compatible with the Pokémon Shield game

  • Please only choose Expansion Pass for the full game that you own. If you own both the Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield games, and want access to Expansion Passes for both games, both Pokémon Sword Expansion Pass and Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass are required

  • Full version of the game is required to use DLC for that game; sold separately

  • Nintendo Switch Online membership (sold separately) and Nintendo Account required for online features. Not available in all countries

  • Internet access required for online features. Terms apply. Nintendo.com/switch-online

  • If you purchase Pokémon Sword Expansion Pass or Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass, you'll receive two codes redeemable to get two special uniform sets of in-game apparel as a bonus

    New features and improved mechanics

As someone who purchased the Pokémon Sword Expansion Pass for the Nintendo Switch in 2021, I can confidently say that it was well worth the investment. This add-on content added a whole new level of excitement and exploration to an already amazing game. The Expansion Pass introduced two new areas, the Isle of Armor and the Crown Tundra, both of which were jam-packed with new characters, stories, and, of course, Pokémon to catch. It was incredibly fun and rewarding to explore these new regions and discover all the unique challenges and battles that awaited me. One thing I really appreciated about the Expansion Pass was how it added more depth to the game's mechanics. There were new features added like the Ability Patch, which allowed me to change the abilities of my Pokémon, and the addition of new Gigantamax forms made for some epic battles. The inclusion of the Galarian Star Tournament was also a great way to team up with other trainers and test my skills.

Great Quality of Life changes for Competitive

First of all buying the expansion pass from Best Buy was an easy and fast process. For the expansion pass itself, make sure that you own a copy of Pokemon Sword / Shield for the Switch before buying. And when you're redeeming in the Nintendo eShop make sure to choose the correct version of the expansion pass that matches the game you own. If you pick the wrong pass you won't be able to use it with the game you own. As for content, I feel like both areas (Isle of Armor / Crown Tundra) only add a few hours each to gameplay if all you're going to do is play through the story. However, the expansion pass does shine when you're looking to play competitive battle stadium online and would like to make your pokemon competitive. They both introduce some great quality of life changes that let you raise Pokemon easier. For example, Gigantamax soup / EV resetter / Hidden Ability changer.

    Pokémon !

The most controversial series ever is back on the Switch. I really enjoyed the base game and find the DLC to be worth it for the expansion and new Pokémon added. Any Pokémon fan should enjoy this. I love the graphics and feel like this is a good direction for the future of the greatest series ever. My childhood was relived in this game and it felt great.

It’s Pokémon for better or worse

More of the same as which is Pokémon’s double edged sword. First expansion doesn’t really add much to the overall game just a few new mons with an even more forgettable story. 2nd expansion is the real star here with the most additions such as lairs, new legendaries and mostly all previous legendary Pokémon from past games. It also adds tournaments which add a ton of replay for folks who doesn’t take there game online.
