The paths of cellist Nargiza Yusupova and pianist Polina Spirina crossed for the first time in 2016, but not, as one might expect, in the corridors of music academies - curiously enough, in a children's playground. Since then, this Munich duo has attracted attention with it's brilliant and sensitive, transparent sound. They also create unique and intimate moments with their charming storytelling and poignant anecdotes from their lives. The listeners and spectators are glued to their lips, their ears follow the passionate and sensual playing of this chamber music fusion. The LaSalle Quartet was active from 1946-88; however, it's influence goes far beyond that. Violinist Walter Levine is still a vital, much sought out authority for string players. From their founding, the Quartet was devoted to the late 19th and 20thc repertoire. The works of Schoenberg, Berg and Webern were a significant part, as were the quartets of Schoenberg's teacher, Alexander Zemlinsky. This CD of studio recordings from 1965,1968 and 1977 draws Zemlinsky together with Haydn and Brahms - a bold program for an ensemble specializing in modern to include some Inchearly musicInch.

Located in a converted Chinese herbalist's shop in Seattle's historic Ballard neighborhood, pianist Jon Alberts' Fu Kun Wu Lounge blends this heady ambiance with the eclecticism of modern jazz. Alberts, along with his luminary band mates, Jeff Johnson (bass) and Tad Britton (drums) have appeared weekly there for over a decade blending an aesthetic prescription with a subdued swing that is surely a cure for the ordinary. There isn't any other place quite like the Fu Kun Wu Lounge and no other musicians make the most of it like Alberts, Johnson and Britton.
